We visited Santa Cruz De La Palma a couple of weeks ago and stayed at the sister property of Apartamentos La Fuente which is called Pension Cubana. Its cheap and cheerful, we were able to get a room after getting off the ferry at 10 pm, which was amazing as there really wasnt anywhere else to try. We were met by Tomas and he was so friendly and informative. Tomas had some much information about the island - walks, beaches and places to eat and was alway cheerful. The double bed that we had was amazingly comfortable and although the facilities are prettty basic they are clean and work, with free tea and coffee. It was nice to stay somewhere that was a traditional building right in the heart of the town. Street noises on Friday and Saturday nights but not really a problem as most people will want to be outside themselves.

There aren’t many places to stay in central Santa Cruz de la Palma and Casa La Fuente is one of the few options to consider. We specifically requested an apartment with a large terrace on their top floor and were very happy we did so. Views and space outside made our day and we enjoyed drinking wine under their pink sunshades facing the main street and overlooking the ocean.
The place is easy going - it looks more like a youth hostel than a typical hotel but location, service and views from our private terrace could hardly be beaten.

Having read the reviews we were optimistic..however we were very glad that our stay was a short one.The location is good and there are some lovely features namely the terraces overlooking a picturesque street.Neither of us mind simple or basic facilities but the apartment we had was unloved,depressing and drab. It was not very clean at all with surfaces sticky to the touch.The bathroom had evidence of previous occupants ..I will leave the detail to your imagination.I can't even console myself that it was cheap because we paid virtually the same price per night for a stunning, spotless casa with 3 bedrooms elsewhere on the island.To be honest I thought that this kind of grotty accommodation was now extinct .(The curling, tatty sellotaped notices on the walls said it all really.)
BUT don't let my review put you off La Palma or Santa Cruz.The town itself is lovely and worth exploring for a few hours but the real jewel of the island is the spectacular scenery of its national parks.

We Had Been recommended to stay here by friends, WHO describes The apartments as pretty basic but good value for money. The apartments are Located right in the heart of the historic city. There are a number of reasonably priced restaurants Within walking distance, and although Dedicated There Is No There Are Ample car parking spaces in the road on the Avenida Maritima, yards away.

We stayed in the top floor apartment no. 7 Which Was the largest apartment with a balcony with a view to the sea. Apartment no. 5 Also has a balcony Overlooking the sea and Below Was ours. The only disadvantage to These apartments is That There is no lift and There are 72 steps up to apartment 7. Overall the apartment was very good value, although the cleanliness let it down upward slightly. Very quiet at night.

Very good and free Internet connection via high speed ethernet cable Which Worked very well. Advice on walks, places to eat etc by Mona on reception was excellent nad proved accurate. Were Best places to eat out of town 10/15 minutes - Paradilla Bar in Las Nieves for meat, and Restaurant by the airport Goyo Both Were Outstanding in quality and value and well worth the trip.

In summary the great location of the apartments and the helpfulness of the staff, More Than Any make up for Lack of cleanliness. A great place to stay and Not touristy at all.
