“OK for a cheap getaway”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Booked this holiday as a late deal. £300 all inclusive flying from a local airport.
It wasn't as warm as I would have liked and the sun didn't really break through the clouds. It is there winter though and there isn't much you can do to change the weather.

Location wise the hotel is good, it took about 10 minutes to get from the airport to the hotel. Check in was fast and efficient, within another 10 minutes I was in a small bungalow. These have the basics, sofa, kettle, microwave. Great if you want a quick drink or sandwich without having to leave your room.

The bedroom upstairs had 2 single beds. They were very noisy! If you lay still then you didn't have a problem but turn over and they creaked like hell. Overall though not a problem once you were asleep.
The bathroom left something to be desired. Although it was clean it needed an upgrade. The grout between the tiles was dropping out and the sink was cracked. The bath looked like someone had been round it with a lump hammer then painted over the evidence. However that said everything worked and there seemed to be enough hot water for two people to shower. Which is always a bonus.

The pool area was nice. It was too windy and cold to use it or sit outside really but in the summer months I imagine it is a really nice area to be. They have a pool bar and plenty of open space with loungers.
They also had a gym, football courts, tennis courts and table tennis. Along with a couple of pool tables.

The all inclusive package was ok. All meals were good, there wasn't a huge range to choose from but there was always plenty to eat. It wasn't very hot, but they provided a microwave to solve that problem. I travelled with a vegetarian, be prepared to find meat in the vegie stuff... Stick to the salads and you will be ok...

The bar didn't open until 15:30 and closed at 23:00. I would have liked to see it open a bit earlier and maybe run a bit later. That aside the barman, Sebastian, was fantastic. Once he knew what your poisen was your glass was never empty. As soon as you were down to the last drops he had another lined up.
There was a good atmosphere in the bar and most people seemed British.

Overall it was a good holiday, I have only rated it as average because the next one up, very good, doesn't seem quite right.
I would happily go back, in the summer, but there are a few small things that could be improved on.

Room Tip: Stay in the hotel itself and not a bungalow.

“Cold rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Me and my boyfriend went for a short break before Christmas December 2011.we was told it was hot has good surroundings and busy. But it was neither of these. It was freezing (1hot day out of 4)
it was in the middle of nowhere , the hotel didn't look very appealing from the front , but did
Look better at the back.
The entertainment wasn't very good , the drinks are watered down and the food wasn't great , my boyfriend was ill several days. Our room was facing the front of the hotel and was VERY windy at night and makes the room very cold, we was both sleeping in jumpers!

But That's what you get for a cheap holiday. The hotel staff were very helpfull but I wouldn't recommend as we got bored

Room Tip: Very cold and much more windier in December

“great value and clean hotel”

We travelled as 2 couples in our mid-late twenties and we loved our cheap break (£280 AI) in the sun (although it liked to hide behind the clouds a bit..but this is their winter). We also were concerned about previous negative reviews, but there is no need to be.
The location is excellent for the airport, 8-10 euros in a taxi for 5 minutes.
The hotel is fresh and clean, pool area is pressure washed every morning and furniture is nice. The sun loungers don't have adjustable heads, but no big deal. There is a sauna and jacuzzi for hire, table tennis and tennis are free (just 20 euro deposit for bats/balls/rackets/football) and a great daily entertainment programme with Fabien. Costa de Antigua does not offer much as a resort, but there is lovely walk (longer 40 minutes via the costal path or 15 minutes via a open area short cut) to Colleta de Fuste which has a lovely beach with volleyball nets, sun loungers, shops, bars and cafes. We enjoy walking so this was not an issue for us, again we liked being in the quiet resort and venturing out when you wished for night life. Note-the costal path is very windy so if the sun is not out it can be chilly for that part, so I would strongly recommend taking a hoodie or hat/head band if visiting during cooler months.
The food was fine at the hotel, lovely salads and always plenty of choice. Sebastein will see to your drinks, he is a very pleasant bar man who helped improve my Spanish. The hotel had a lovely family run feel to it, with pleasant staff and the guests really mingled and made friends, which was lovely as we did notice a few single travellers who were having a great time. The bingo and bar games in the evenings were clean and a good laugh with everyone getting involved, plus a few animal shows.
Would highly recommend the Oasis Park and camel safari as a day out, the free bus collects you at the hotel front door at 845am. It is about 1.5 hours away, by the time you pick up from other hotels so take a picnic as you will not be home until 730pm (taxi is about 50 euros if you want to escape earlier).
Did not think much of Stoner's Irish bar as it was expensive for drinks, much cheaper pubs in colleta de fuste, liked the King's Arms for football and karaoke. The Slow Boat buffet restaurant on a Wednesday (cheap night 36 euros for 4 people including 2 alcoholic drinks each) was great, as was the restaurant 15-had an amazing meal of venison, quail and rabbit with whiskey and a coulis sauce here (98 euros for 4 people, 2 courses and a drink-amazing food, offering different dishes).
So enjoy your holiday, and remember to pack a few warmer items of clothing as the island is very windy, which can turn chilly when the sun disappears.

“I'll Be Back !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We arrived back yesterday from the Costa Tropical, and it was great, we only spent a long weekend there as a birthday surprise. I have read some of the comments on this page and to say the least I don't understand what people are moaning about, my thoughts only but, you get what you pay for, if your looking for 5 star style, pay for it and read the literature better before you book. Our room was A1 and was cleaned twice in the three days. The staff throughout the complex were great, nothing too much trouble and always a smile and guessing at the hours some of these guys were working that would be enough to test anyone's humor. The entertainment and bar guys were the best, always woring hard to ensure you were enjoying you time there.
We stayed all inclusive and wished we could have stayed longer, two weeks in this place would do me nicely!! We have stayed at various all inclusive resorts and this is amongst the best, the food is top quality and plenty of it.
Can't understand some of the comments on here? We had a great time and all being well will go back.
The location of the resort is quiet, but if your looking for somewhere where you can eat sun bath and chill out, you found it, but for 5 euros you can get a taxi to the next town where you will find whatever your looking, lovely beach, sports bars (not my thing) fabulous restaurants and much more.

Room Tip: Don't shut the door behind you when you go out on the balcony, you cant get back in?!

“very cheerful and at a good price”

Just got back on Wednesday after a lovely week AI here. Before booking we checked other reviews and were NEARLY put off, but decided we would chance it, glad we did. We had a lovely holiday. The pool area is lovely it was renovated December, plenty of sunbeds and in high season sitting in the pool around the pool bar would be lovely. The rooms were clean and comfortable and whilst we were there the public areas were being renovated so presumably so will the rooms. Our room (108) was above the bar didn't bother us but high season and if you take children might be better in bungalows. Although we were AI we took T.bags and got a glass of milk and sugar from the restuarant so we could have an early cuppa and having a fridge in the room is good. The bar was always spotlessly clean drinks were a good quality. Food seems to be a bug bear with a some people, we heard complaints while we were there but we had no problem. We always found something we liked, as other reviewers have said its not 5* but what do you want for £245 a week AI. We go on holiday to have a good time and (in Jan)some lovely sunshine , hopefully without spending a fortune, and that is exactly what we got So go with an open mind don't expect the Ritz but it is also NOT faulty towers. One last thing our AI bands were not taken off us at 12 when we had to vacate our rooms we were able to eat and drink right upto the time we left for our flight. Will stay again, thankyou

Room Tip: to make sure away from noise probably bungalows might be better but it was very quite at night when...
