“This is no 5 star hotel ! Try again !!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

This is a beautiful 5 star building from the outside, but unfortunately I was staying on the inside. The lobby is more than dated and smells of mildew and/or damp. The suite room was small by any standard and the decor was from the? Well not sure, but not nice.
The staff was attentive but it seemed to treat you with distain and arrogance. Very stuffy.
I ate only once here as I do learn fast. There menu was nothing special and I found other restaurants with the same choices and more for less.
I will never stay here again, how the Prince and Princess stay here is beyond me.
Thank goodness my next stop was the Savoy!!!!

“Excellent hotel for short stay in Oviedo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

Recently stayed at the Reconquista for a couple of nights and loved the decor, the rooms, the ambiance and the breakfasts. Everwhere spotlessy clean. Bathrooms fully equipped with everything you could possibly want and fluffy white towels too! It is five minutes from 'downtown' and has a beautiful courtyard and lounge area. It is also a haven of tranquillity in a busy yet classy town that tries very hard to promote its image. We did not eat there in the evenings but the breakfasts were superb. Fully recommend this hotel and Oviedo too - a wonderful town with much to offer.

“Great Location, needs new room decor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 April 2010

Service is very good, location is the best in the whole city. However to be a five star the rooms need to be renovated. Bathrooms are new but rooms do not look as good as they should.
Oviedo is a beautiful city and the Reconquista is still the place to stay, Melia Hotels has the administration but they could be much better if the inside looked as good as the outside.

Would stay here again.

“Not an holiday (vacation) hotel.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2007

This is simply not a five star hotel. It is definately not a hotel for holiday makers. It has very few facilities, sauna at 10 euros per person the highlight. No balcony, no outside seating although it had a court yard area that would have been perfect. The room was dark and a little dated but okay with comfortable bed. American bar a bit of a joke, a pokey little room with no people or atmosphere. Parking over 10 euro a night (for a motorbike) which i didn't find out about until we checked out and didn't have the heart to add to my wife's already disppointed view. If your intrested in stopping in a stuffy (would be upper class) atomsphere, where you can walk around like some sort of royalty and count looking at a few nice pieces of art as a holiday this may be the hotel for you. If your like me and you like nice hotels with character and the local feel of where your actually staying, with some faciliaties, then please don't be disappointed like us and look elsewhere in Oviedo.
The 1 mark is for the comfortable beds and location.

“A spectacular splurge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2006

I normally stay in hotels priced $30 - $60 dollars, which are plentiful in Oviedo, but when I arrived, construction was going on all along the streets around the train station. I walked quickly down the main street, and around the block (only about 5 minutes), following a Lonely Planet map, and came upon a building that looked like a grand museum or gov't palace. When I realized it was the hotel, I said what the heck. My "single" room was bigger than my apartment at home, and the hotel actually is an art museum, with an art guide in every room. The lobby was like being in a palace. It was a fanastic experience, if you have the bucks.

  • Liked — It was like living in a palace.
  • Disliked — Expensive, but worth it.
