“A truly Unique experience...”

We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon a month ago and reminisce very fondly on our experience. We had room 52, I think, and enjoyed the night view of Neuschwanstein. Location is the main reason I would recommend staying here because the surrounding area is breathtaking. I agree with other reviews that the front desk workers are a bit stern, but this is easy to overlook. If you plan to tour the castles I suggest staying the night for a truly unique experience.

“Perfect location ! what you hope for in a storybook spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

We stayed 2 nights and had a wonderful experience. The front desk was helpful and prompt. The room had storybook views of both castles. I was at first a little concerned that we also overlooked the busy main street, but by the time we got back to the room .... the town had closed down for the night and the busloads of tourists were all gone.Their buffett breakfast is a bit pricey, but very well done with a good selection for everyone to start off their day! If you can swing it - worth the extra $$$

“Gorgeous hotel, terrible staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2010

The hotel and our room was wonderful, the restaurant amazing, but the woman at reception needed an attitude check. She was extremely rude when we got there, and when I had to go back to get our gastkarte she was still rude. She should have given that to us at check in, but didn't, instead she crumpled it up and threw it away. Oh well, we didn't let her attitude ruin our trip. While we probably won't stay there again, we stayed in one of the Junior Suites. We had the only one with a balcony, that over looked the little town and Neuschwanstein. The room itself actually wasn't as noisy as we thought, with all the tourists outside. The noise came from whomever was staying in the room above us. The beds were okay, typical European hard mattresses, once again 2 twins stuck together to make a king... I'll never get used to that. Free parking, which was nice. DIdn't bother with breakfast, but I'm sure it would have been good.

“Views & rooms great...BUT did not get room promised-BEWARE; service terrible in DR and Beer Garden,Rude!Slow!Overcharge”

WHAT AN UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE for what was intended to be a very special weekend.

I stayed here for two (2) nights in July with my daughter and 5 year old granddaughter, who is absolutely infatuated with castles, princes and princess...as all 5 year old girls. She is the only reason we stayed there, and on the condition that we would have room 62.

I also convinced a friend who was traveling with me to stay there because of my granddaughter, instead of staying at the Hotel Sonne in Fussen (#1 on Trip Advisor for hotels in Fussen, and the people I spoke with at Hotel Sonne about a reservation were lovely). When we went to Fussen to shop after leaving Villa Jagerhaus to go to Oberammergau for the Passion Play, we saw Hotel Sonne. It is in a great location in the center of town near the pedestrial area. HOTEL SONNE'S RATES ARE MUCH LESS THAN VILLA JAGERHAUS, AND THEY INCLUDE BREAKFAST, whereas breakfast at Villa Jagerhaus is 12 Euros/person.

Based on my experience at Villa Jagerhaus, I would NEVER stay there again nor would I recommend that ANYONE stay there...even with a young daughter or granddaughter who loves castles.

One becomes oversaturated with views of Neuschwanstein without staying there and just by taking the horse and carriage ride [a great experience and easy for anyone to take from the village...just stand in a short line (early in the day) in front of Hotel Muller,(#1 on Trip Advisor of hotels near Neuschwanstein???), and next door to Villa Jagerhaus, a short walk from the car park if you drive from Fussen. You will have so many views of Neuschwanstein from the carriage ride and by walking up the rather long and winding path to the castle .

If you order tickets over the internet, you do not need to arrive prior to the morning of your tours (only a few minutes from Fussen) to pick up your tickets an hour before your scheduled tour...although I would recommend at least 2 hours...and a tour before noon. At noon and thereafter all of the tour buses arrive and the lines become somewhat chaotic.

WHY I WOULD NEVER STAY AT VILLA JAGERHAUS AGAIN:
#1. I began my reservation process for Room 62 at the Villa Jagerhaus in January 2010 and modified it on Feb.2, ...making it VERY CLEAR that if they did not have Room 62 available, then I would stay elsewhere! I received the run-around on that for a while and then (after having made reservations Hotel Sonne in Fussen, as a backup, because it did not overlook the castles at Hohenschwangau), I called and was given verbal confirmation of my reservation for Room 62. I then followed that telephone conversation up with an email confirming the conversation that I had ROOM 62 for the two (2) nights in July,

I NEVER HAD ANY RESPONSE TO THE CONTRARY. As a result I cancelled my reservation at Hotel Sonne...because I never would have stayed at Villa Jager haus without the guarantee for that room. UPON ARRIVAL LATE IN THE EVENING (when it was too late to go somewhere else) I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD ROOM 42 AND NOT ROOM 62!!!! At that point there was nothing I could do about it!!! The point is that if the only reason you are going there is to get the best room (Room 62), do not count on their guarantee that you will get that room!!!

IF I HAD KNOWN THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD ROOM 62 AS REQUESTED AND PROMISED, I NEVER WOULD HAVE STAYED AT VILLA JAGERHAUS. I had already found Hotel Sonne which seemed to be much more to my liking because of its location, amenities (breakfast included), more reasonable price, and in a small village that did not DIE at 6 PM. There is absolutely nothing to do in Hohenschwangau other than eat after 6 PM...and if the food offered is not available...WHY STAY THERE??? See #2.

#2 The service in the relatively expensive dining room is TERRIBLE...very slow and, if you arrive at 8 PM (restaurant is open until 11, PM in one place and 10 PM in another place on the Villa Jagerhaus web site), the restaurant manager REFUSED to prepare any of the flambee entrees or desserts...BOTH of which I wanted to order when we arrived at the restaurant in a timely fashion...well before 9. What we did order was excellent, it just was NOT what I wanted AND NOT WHAT I HAD COME TO VILLA JAGERHAUS TO HAVE FOR DINNER!!!

The flamed entrees and desserts are shown on the menu on the web site that says it is open until 10PM...but the Restaurant Manager refussed to serve those on the first night. He did (reluctantly) condescend to prepare the Crepes Suzette for my granddaughter on the second night we ate there.

IF THEY ARE NOT GOING TO SERVE THE ITEMS ON THE MENU AND STAY OPEN FOR ALL ITEMS UNTIL THE TIME POSTED ON THEIR WEB SITE, WHY DO THEY STATE THAT THEY WILL?????

I am one who particularly enjoys excellent and different dishes, and THE MENU THAT VILLA JAGERHAUS POSTS ON THEIR WEB SITE (and the menu they offer in the restaurant)... BOTH offer the flamed entrees: "flamed filet of ox or flamed filet of ostrich," as well as their flamed desserts. THESE OFFERINGS is the SECOND REASON for considering staying there. IF I HAD KNOWN THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE, I NEVER WOULD HAVE STAYED THERE.

#3 RECOMMENDATION: Do not order any whiskey. I ordered a double scotch on the rocks. A double was suppose to be 50 ml., the equivalent of one of the small bottles one receives on the air planes or in the mini bars in hotels. A single is 25 ml. or 1/2 that. They delivered a drink about 1/4" high in a normal "on the rocks" glass with 2 VERY SMALL ice cubes. I mentioned it to one of the Irish waiters that this was "very short" and he said that their drinks were on the light side. I had never had to question a "double" before, but when I returned to the Marriott at the Munich Airport, I poured one of the small, 50 ml. bottles in an identical glass in diameter with 2 ice cubes, and it was 1/2-3/4" high in the glass. This is FRAUD, and I will dispute the charges for 1/2 cost of these drinks on my American Express card.

#4 They do not offer room service. However, I awakened on the first morning, not feeling well, ad asked if they could deliver (or if my friend or daughter could bring me) a small pot of coffee. ( I had just spent the 2 previous nights at the Post Hotel MITTENWALD which also did not offer room service; but when I call Reception and requested orange juice and a pot of coffee, it was delivered, without charge, IMMEDIATELY. The next morning I called, and I did not even have to tell them what I wanted, they responded, "you would like your coffee?" I did not ever add the fruit juice, but it was delivered without my asking...and all of the was for 80 Euros/night, breakfast included without any extra charge for the coffee and juice delivered to the room...plus a glass of milk in the evening to take my medicine with! Villa Jagerhaus refused to do so...and my daughter had to bribe the waitress after her and my granddaughter's breakfast (at a charge of 12 Euros) and after everyone else had left the breakfast room, in order to be able to bring me some coffee herself.

FOR ALL OF THE ABOVE REASONS (THEIR MISREPRESENTATIONS ABOUT ROOM 62, THE ITEMS ON THE MENU "NOT BEING AVAILABLE, THEIR TERRIBLE SERVICE (very slow, and failing to serve items ordered, not serving entrees (in the beer garden), THEIR DOUBLE CHARGING FOR DRINKS, and THEIR TOTAL LACK OR RESPONSIVENESS TO THE NEEDS OF THEIR GUESTS (in addition to the fact that ther is absolutely nothing to do in Hohenswangau after the castles are closed), I would never recommend the Villa Jagerhaus or the sister hotel to ANYONE. if you want to stay at the foot of Neuschwanstein, then I recommend that you look into the Hotel Muller as a possibility. On the other hand, staying in Fussen, and probably at Hotel Sonne, would be my recommendation. It is less expensive, only a few minutes away from the castles, with activities after 5 PM, and the SERVICE, HONESTY, AND REPRESENTATIONS HAVE TO BE BETTER!

#5 The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. They provided a nice cot for my granddaughter....,but my friend who had a single room...located on the third floor in what was the attic, could not stand up in the shower because it was under the eve of the roof(she's only 5'4" tall) and the eves of the roof came down on the desk in the room...so BEWARE if single rooms if you are traveling alone!

“Enchanting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2010

Stayed there one night July, 2010. Originally booked Schloss Hotel Lisl (their sister property across the street), but received a room at Jagerhaus (no complaints there). Wow. It was absoutely enchanting.

We had a junior suite situated in a corner with an additional adjoining room for our boys. Perfect set-up. Rooms were immaculate. Bathrooms were filled with not only soaps, etc, but a few extras like combs and nail-files. Nice touch. They even left glasses filled with chocolates in each room. The main room had a separate living area with couch and chair and plenty of room had we wanted to put two rollaways in the room with us. The adjoining room was set up with two twins and a bathroom larger than you can believe, complete with soaker tub. I will say that had we not taken the additional room, there would not have much privacy with a separate party in the adjoining room, so keep that in mind. It was located on the third floor, no elevator. Stair cases are huge and wide, so easy to climb (depending on your luggage).

View out the window of the main room was over the village below with a backdrop of Newschwanstein Castle high upon the hill. At night, lights illuminated it for a truly magical scene.

Breakfast was served in the Lisl and was plentiful and varied. I've seen complaints, but I don't know how. We had a omelet station and a selection of breads, meats, cheeses, yogurts and cereal. Tea selection was fantastic. Wait staff was friendly.

Only rude person (funny, I think she's mentioned in the reviews a few times already) was the lady at the front desk. She originally messed up our reservation and I've saved you all the details of that mess, but that did take some time and frustration to get right. She was not happy that I held my ground about the reservation being corrected. Another young lady, luckily, was around to help sort it out at the end and she was quite congenial.

If you can't get in Villa Jagerhaus (or the Lisl), I noticed a nice property up the road, Hotel Muller. We walked through it , but did not see rooms. It looked very nice. Also, a very friendly property (not as many stars, but a bit less expensive) is Hotel Alpenstuben. All these properties are within a few hundred yards of each other in the tiny village of Hohenschwangua.
