My husband and I stayed one night at the Hotel attimo in Stuttgart on Friday 27 April. We were happy to have found this hotel, at a decent price, so close to the Fairgrounds, so we could attend a local festival. Please read this review knowing that we have lived in Germany for two years and speak German. We are well-aware of the European standards and quality and I am not reviewing this hotel as a "spoiled American" traveler.
For a Hotel room that we payed $150 a night, not including breakfast, I do, however have a few basic requirements. The room should be clean, a good temperature and comfortable bedding. Check in went fairly well and the staff was efficient. You enter the hotel room from a main door, on the outside of the building, not where the reception is. So it actually look like you are letting yourself into an apartment building. The hallways are dark, with some rather odd artwork on the walls. The room seemed fine, at first inpection and we simply dropped off our bags and changed to go to the event. There was a small kitchenette area (fridge and counter with glassware, no microwave) and a special coffee maker provided. The bathroom was tiny, but clean- only two large towels provided. The bed was small and narrow, with only one small pillow per person.
Arriving back into the room at just before midnight, the room was COLD! I turned on the radiator, only to realize shortly that the heating system was not working. We tried searching the drawers and wardrobe but no extra pillows, sheets, blankets or towels were provided. The bed was European style "matrimonial bed"- two singles pushed together. There was a gap in the middle which we are used to seeing. What I am NOT ued to however is that when you try to lay in the middle with your partner, the two beds slid easily apart! The bases were not secured in any way. and the duvet covers seemed to be sized for a child, they did not fully cover my body and i am an avergae sized female. Since the reception at this hotel closes at 11pm, there was no way to go to the Front Desk and ask for another blanket. I tried (and failed) all night to stay warm under my limited duvet covering.
In the morning when we checked out, the staff was curt and seemed fine with not thanking us for our stay OR asking how the room was. I had to tell them "NO!" (about just taking the key & waving us off.) I explained how we had been cold & uncomfortable in the bed all night. The desk clerk informed that the heat in the whole building had already been turned off for the season. With regards to the uncomfortable bed with insufficient bedding, she had only this to say "No other guests have complained."
Not only did she not apologize or offer to make ammends (a discount or a free breakfast would have been a step in the right direction), but her answer was JUST PLAIN RUDE! This is not cusomter service. Unless you NEED to stay in this area, take the SBahn just one more stop away to the Hauptbahnhof and stay in a higher quality hotel.
