A high quality hotel with excellent staff and discreet high quality service. The rooms are of reasonable size, the staff are all multi-lingual and the public areas very clean. In fact it has the combined feel of a classy major chain with the homeliness of a small independent hotel. Perfectly positioned on the river, in the town centre, adjacent to all public transport links. The restaurant serves a nice and varied buffet style breakfast and I believe the dinners are excpetional but I've so far succumbed to the variety of other local restaurants in the vicinity.
In summer months the outside seated and dining area is a very pleasant place to while away the hours, watching the (rather attractive) locals pass by before retreating to the comfortable, but sadly non air-conditioned, bedrooms.
This is the main hotel I stay in when visiting colleagues in Germany. I have stayed in others in and around Germany but the Insel just feels very homely. Highly recommended but with caution when the weather is very hot and humid.
