Okay, this hotel is about 2km outside the centre of touristy Triberg, and as such, is a nice quiet place to retreat to after a days walking / sightseeing / souvenir shopping etc.
The hotel is very old fashioned, which we really liked. Decor from the 1960s or 1970s. Henry and his wife run the hotel, and are extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfasts fill you up, and if you have dinner there, the food is of a very good quality with locally sourced ingredients.
We paid 74 euros for the room, breakfast, tourist taxes inclusive. The room was very large, although the bathroom very small. Everything was clean, and although the room was on the main road, it was quiet at night (plenty of lorries pass during the day, but virtually no noise after dark). Room service was daily, although the towels werent up to much (not very towelly, if you know what I mean!).
The owner also picked us up from the station, and gave us a quick tour of the local area on the way back to the hotel, so we knew where things were, which was very decent of him.
So the pros -
- very nice cosy hotel
- the owners very attentive and helpful, and speak good English.
- prices very comparable with other hotels
- excellent value for money
- plenty of food for breakfast, and the evening menu is very good
- quiet and relaxed placed to stay
- you get a free travelcard (which I think might be standard for hotels in the Black Forest, not entirely sure - either way, it's really useful)
Cons -
- couple of km outside Triberg, and buses are once an hour so if you havent got a car, then some planning is required when going places. Didnt worry us, but might bother some
- some rooms on the main road, although looks as though others would face the back of the hotel. Again, not something that bothered us, but if you fancy a nap during the day, then there could be noise from the road.
- small bathroom, and probably best to bring your own towels.
Overall - a smashing place with helpful owners that is very good value for money, and just some minor drawbacks to consider. We'd certainly recommend it.
