Hotel Oberkirch is located on the Muensterplatz in the heart of Freiburg's old town. My room was in the hotel's "annex," just a two-minute walk from the main hotel. It was clean, tidy and equipped with a lift. The staff was extremely welcoming and my single room was spacious, tastefully decorated, had a flat screen TV with an English-language news channel and came with a welcoming gift of fruit and a bottle of water. The shower had plenty of hot water and water pressure was good. There was a complimentary travel-size shampoo-and-shower soap along with a small cake of hand soap. The breakfast buffet, included in the price of the room, was more than adequate, with variious kinds of breads, cold cuts, cheeses, fruit juices, joghurts and cereals offered. In addition, the staff offered to cook an egg for you. It was a treat to sit outside in the evening at one of the hotel's tables facing the towering Gothic St. Martin church and sip a glass of wine and people-watch. On the downside, as with many older European hotels, there was no air conditioning, so my room was hot, even with the windows open.
