I arrived in darkness and left in fog so I can't comment on the scenic view but with the hotel located on top of Freiburg and knowing the area it must be great.
If you come by car make your your sat nav is working finding it is not too bad as there're plenty of signs but the way out in the mist was a bit tricky.
The hotel and rooms are very good but nothing special. Very special is the restaurant Chez Eric which serves some fantastic food and has a very great team. Not the cheapest but well worth it. Bar/lounge area is also very nice and they have a good choice of local and French wines, brandys and spirits.
Not so great is the price of breakfast at EUR 17 which I skipped because of the price. I don't mind paying this amount for a Sunday breakfast but for a breakfast with limited time being on a business trip a cheaper alternative would be helpful.
Considering that most smaller hotels/B&Bs offering free Wifi I am asking myself why most chains are still tryingt to rip off their customers which is the same here - Wifi charges are not 21st century like.

This hotel provides you a wonderful view over Freiburg with clean and quiet rooms. Just one warning: This hotel has still a couple of smoking rooms and we had the first night one of those. So you are strongly advised to indicate with your reservation the type of room you prefer.
In Herdern are near the church some traditional restaurants. Just a walk of 20 minutes and from there the center of Freiburg is another 25 minutes walk or take the bus.

Husband and I spent a weekend in this hotel recently and we enjoyed it. Mercure Panorama is situated right above the city, few kilometres from the centre. The building might look a bit strange, but once you enter it you'll feel at home. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. All room have panoramic view of the city. We are planning on going back some time soon:)

This is a good hotel with comfortable, large rooms, all the facilities you could need as well as wonderful views over the town. And all this at a reasonable price. The indoor pool is excellent and has a nice sun terrace. We chose the location because we wanted to stay out of town to travel around for the four days we were there. But it is difficult to get to and you need to drive everywhere or to pay 13 Euros for a taxi to and from Freiburg.

But beware of the restaurant which vastly overpriced and, we felt, pretentious. The food is certainly very good but even so they cannot justify these prices. The service varied from annoyingly over-attentive to completely absent. There is no quick, cheap menu option and you should only eat there if you are too tired to go into town.
