“One of the world's great restaurants”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

A really perfect dining experience-great food, an outstanding, well-priced wine list, exemplary service, and a comfortable room to collapse in-what else can one say. Oh, and to work off the meal, a very well equipped gym, and tennis court!

“Perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

people found this review helpful

We stayed for 4 nights in the week before christmas. Upon arrival, the reception was great, luggage taken out of the car and brought to the room, car was taken care of by the staff, one of the receptionists walked with us to our room. The room was actually not a room but three rooms (because we needed space for our babies (21 and 4 months old)) cots were provided as were baby bathrobes.

After a short walk through the hotel (bar, restaurants, stubes, shopping mall, spa, pool area, fitness room etcetera, the hotel is big) we went for the afternoon cake which is served from 4 o'clock and had tea/coffee and cake.

The first night we had dinner in the gourmet restaurant (see separate review), the other nights in the regular hotel restaurant: the food was of really good quality too, choice of two menus (Vital menu with light healthy dishes and gourmet menu), both are really good.

The breakfast is certainly one of the best in a hotel ever. The hotel bar is nice, bartenders really helpfull and they remember your name and your favourite drink. Service around the hotel is perfect everywhere. In fact the staff everywhere is ready to make your stay perfect.

For the children there are several separate villa's where they are entertained from morning to evening (starting at an age of 3 years) with numerous activities. Ours were to young so the hotel provided baby sitters at a reasonable rate, so that we were able to dine without them in peace.

The pool area is like paradise: normal pool, jacuzzi, baby pool, saltwater indoor whirlpool, outdoor saltwater whirlpool (and several other outdoor pools that were closed in december), lounge chairs, pool bar and a really wel equiped fitness room.

The spa is good, clean and comfortable.

Every day there are activities: hikes, tours, wine tasting, readings, music etc.

In conclusion a stay in hotel Bareiss makes you forget all of your everyday worries and you feel relaxed and pampered.

Is there nothing to critisize?
Although the hotel is (near) perfect there is: our large room had just a small bathroom with an outdated decor and the showerhead almost did fall apart, secondly the hotel does not accept credit cards, which I think is really inconvenient and thirdly reservation of a certain room type is only garanteed from 4 night on. But we will certainly return to Bareiss

Dear guests

‘Thank you!’ What more could we say concerning your marvellous evaluation.
Your words are ‘kudos’ to the whole team in the Hotel Bareiss and I am really glad to submit it to our staff. After reading your lines, I was so happy to note that we are, obviously, doing a good job and that our guests feel at home and satisfied at the Hotel Bareiss.

I would like to take the opportunity to inform you that we will make a start on enlarging the capacity in the lounger area of our Pool and Sauna Environment in March 2012. Furthermore, we establish a steam room, an ice fountain, a sanarium, a Finnish Sauna, a fireside lounge and a relaxation room.

Furthermore, I am very delighted that you enjoyed our extensive breakfast choice. It is of great importance for us that your start of day leaves no wish unfulfilled.

Where there is light, there is shade. So I am really thankful for your remarks concerning your room. I spoke with the responsible head of department immediately to clear up these details.

As for the matter of non-acceptance of credit cards, I would like to express our decision: As the hotel has an average utilisation of nearly 90 percent forming the basis for our price structure we adopted a long-term pricing policy to offer our guests an optimal ratio of price and benefits with competitive prices. To give you an example: to secure the quality of the services offered for a maximum of 230 guests, 240 employees are required which is one reason for not having the margin to pay fees for credit card companies or other fees which we would not like to hand on to our guests. For this reason we do not accept credit card payments for the room account. The restaurant bills are excluded from this regulation.

The situation is similar with our so called ‘Bareiss category price’ which we offer you at your stay of less than 4 nights.

We understand that our guests are sometimes not very happy with these details but we ask for your comprehension as we cannot act differently for economic purposes. We hope that you understand this procedure and do not misinterpret it as an arrogant behaviour. The reverse is true: we want to accord our guests directly the maximum of services for their optimal benefits of an all around enjoyable stay.

We would be very happy to welcome you again being your hosts. Until then, I would like to say ‘Goodbye’ to you and your little babies.

With kind regards

Hannes Bareiss

“We will be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We stayed here for 1 night only on a trip through the Black Forest - we will be back. The staff is one of the friendliest we've ever encountered, can't describe how sweet they are. The food is exceptional and the hotel was beautifully decorated for the holidays. We did not have time to enjoy, but we took a peek at the spa and it was extremely nice, seem to offer anything you would need for a nice pampering. We will come back in the summer when we can enjoy a good hike on the nearby trails and then an even better pampering in the spa and pools.

Dear Mrs and Mr MacEachern

The pleasure about your lovely compliments is entirely mine.

Indeed, it is a great joy to us, my father Hermann Bareiss, the team of the Hotel Bareiss and me, being able to enthuse our guests the way we were able to enthuse you.

We would be very pleased to welcome you again this summer and maybe you will share some time with our hiking guides and other guests, or just on your own. Please let us know at any time how we can support you. We would be very happy being your host.

Thank you very much for your comment concerning our spa area. In March 2012, we will carry out some structural alteration works in this part of the hotel. The house will then be closed for three weeks. After that, a newly renovated and redecorated spa and pool area is at your disposal!

Until then, I would like to say goodbye and wish you and your whole family a belated happy New Year and all the best, luck and health for 2012.

Best regards

Hannes Bareiss

“Beautiful property in a wonderful place - although it has a particular atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

+Huge Penthouse suite (Bareiss no1), wonderful modern bathroom, three balconies, jacuzzi, sauna, sun bed, a bit over the top.
+incredible staff. follow your every whine and wish. made a particular effort to speak french when they found out we were a french family, which was an amazing touch, i have to say.
+food is overall of great, great quality. the restaurant system is a bit weird but you quickly get used to it
+pool area was big and beautiful. sometimes a little too crowded but it was bearable. outdoor whirlpool (litteraly a reaal whirl pool) was fun and very warm, always good in cold weather
+plenty of activities meant we never got bored ! ride bikes, the sattelei chalet always very welcoming (excellent flammekuche!)

-the guests of the hotel seem to be very old. mostly big families (grand parents, parents, children, uncles, aunts) which gives a particular atmosphere to the hotel. we didn't have a problem with that, but i wouldn't go to this kind of hotel with friends or as a couple, it isn't very enticing.
-while walking around on our floor (all the penthouse suites are on the same floor), we realized our suite was one of three that haven't been (or didn't look like) they were renovated yet. we felt a bit cheated, indeed the room (except the bathroom) felt slightly dated and worn out.

overall, a good experience, the staff were really great, the property was well maintained. no big complaints.

Room Tip: ask for a renovated one and avoid bareiss suites 1, 2 and 3. not renovated + near a noisy function r...

“Wonderful pool choices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

The thing that most distinguishes the Hotel Bareiss from others of its league is the great pools.
The indoor pool is as one would expect in a good hotel. Then there's the shoulder-depth indoor pool in which I enjoyed the morning aqua aerobics / swim gymnastics class led by a very good staff fitness leader. An indoor relaxation pool.
Now, let's swim outside into the pool that had a central feature and jets that created a current taking people around and around, or giving a good test for strength swimming against it. It also had a bench on which to sit in the sunshine with bubbles streaming up.
Continue down into the garden where there was a mock-pond, which landings around it with sun lounges on each. And a standard laps pool. A waterfall.
Back inside into the inner wellness area. The usual saunas, dampfbads etcs, and two more pools: small outdoor ones.
All this makes for great unwinding after using the many walking paths in the area. (I've attached a photo taken on one of our walks, looking back down to the village with the hotel just shown, indicated by orange sunshades.)
The main negative for us of this hotel was the visual style which was was, to our eyes, excessively decorated. When we first walked into our room we wondered if we'd made a mistake choosing to stay there, it seemed so OTT to us. But no doubt it pleases many, especially given the other guests were almost all older than us (and we're not young). The furnishings were fresh, so this is clearly the hotel's chosen style.
Baiersbronn is only a few hours' drive from Frankfurt if, like us, you find a few days in a wellness hotel with good local walking and pool facilities a great way to get over jet-lag and start a holiday.
