“Good Central Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

We arrived late at night to a fantastically friendly receptionist who gave us a map, recommended things for us to see and some places to eat. Check in was very quick and efficient and reception later helped us order a taxi and plot the best way to the airport. There is a computer in reception with internet access which we used to check in.

The room was very basic but clean with studenty looking furniture and were quite bright with largish windows. We were on the top floor of the tower so it was a bit of a walk but it was fine. The common areas are very dated and look quite grubby, however the bathroom looked new and had a good hot shower. The bed was quite low but comfortable. We had a decent view of the street being that high up and hardly any noise apart from being able to hear the person coming and going from the adjacent room.

Location is brilliant! We had debated staying closer to the train station, however I’m so glad that we didn’t as both train stations are a fairly long walk and since we were not in Lyon for long the extra walking time would have seriously impacted our time. This hotel is bang in the centre of the old town with loads of restaurants and bars seconds away. We found that on the Sunday, it was around this part of town that seemed to have the most things open too.

We got a taxi from the train station to the hotel around 9.30pm on a Saturday and it cost around 15 euros I think.

At the time this was one of the cheapest central places we could find and I would stay again unless I could find something better for the same price.

“Great location but small room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

It is very well located and the rooms were clean. The room was very small and 2 people might find it a squeeze. It has no elevators and if you were on the higher floors, it is a big effort to make it to the top with and without your luggage. However, given the price and location, we cannot expect much.

“Small room and noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

Although very well located in the old part of Lyon, very close to restaurants and many sights, the room we had was small and opened onto the stairwell which meant that it was noisy. Little room to place bags to unpack etc. No lift.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a low level to avoid carrying your bags up tight stairs. May be rooms less exposed...

“Friendly and clean.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

Quality/Price is correct for Lyon. Deco in the rooms is not great, but works. The place is clean. The people who work there are very friendly. Only real down... the interior rooms tend to be a bit noisy with other guests coming in late at night.

Room Tip: Try to avoid rooms on the 1st or 2nd floor that look over the interior stairwell and court.

“Okay for the value but wont be back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2011

My husband and I were travelling France in June and to be honest, this was the worst hotel out of 7 hotels in France. I was travelling from Nice to Chamonix and Lyon was a convinient stop for us to rest for one night so I did not want to spend too much money on accomodation and that is why I have booked this hotel.

The location was great! It was easy to find and it was close to many places that we wanted to visit. The staffs were really really helpful. However, the building was really old. The room was really dark and it was quite scary to be honest. The bathroom had a door but the ceiling was not covered so our room became really steamy after the shower. The hotel managed to clean the room properly but all the furnitures were really old.

Next time, I am willing to pay a bit more to go to higher ended hotel.
