It the newest of the Marseille based "New" Hotel chain. It's also the only one (I believe) that has 4*. It is located near park and there are besides other hotels and residential homes. Small shops (some selling fresh baked French bread with sweet (marmalade etc.) or savory (cheese/ ham) and pubs in the area. Other restaurants (besides the once in the hotels) are quite a walk away. Staff is friendly and hotel is a good option for business travelers less for tourism unless you don’t mind walking or if you just want to stay on the hotel grounds or at the nearby public (not free) beach.

The hotel staff is extremely helpful, you just have to be patient. After our transatlantic flight, we knew our room wouldn't be ready until 2PM, so they kept our bags and suggested some local sites we could walk to. When we came back, however, the rooms still weren't ready. The concierge was kind enough to squeeze us in, but it took quite some time since he stopped to answer the phone every 2 minutes. The rooms were lovely and spacious, but our shower head was broken and sprayed water all over the bathroom. Breakfast was a real treat. The location of the hotel is very central to the Old Port, but beware--the surrounding restaurants and cafes are tres touristy and expensive. Instead, we venutred further into the city to find grocery stores and boulangeries. Overall, a good stay, but just have to accept that rushing and prompt customer service aren't a French expectation.

We stayed at the New Hotel Vieux Port for a couple of days in May 2010. Have to say the location is as good as you could ask for. The hotel was a little tired but more than adequate and well presented. The WiFi was OK if a little inconvenient in the dining room only. We enjoy Marseille so much little time was actually spent in the hotel... It was a good base for our wandering around town. The price was acceptable and considered reasonable all things considered. Our room door had an alarm buzzer that reminded you to lock the door. Which we always did. Sadly we had a 64gb iPod stolen from our locked room and as only the hotel staff had access we know it was one of them. When we reported this to the reception staff they stoutly defended the virtue of the minibar and cleaning personnel. We reported the theft to the police and they said there was not much we or they could do except perhaps find another hotel.... Needless to say that's exactly what we did.

This place was clean, walking distance from port, and staff was great. The guy at the registration desk at night was extremely friendly and helpful and spoke perfect English. They were nice enough to give all our friends rooms on the same floor. The only problem was construction behind the hotel that started at around 6 or 7am.
