“great hotel for the money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2007

I stayed at this hotel for one night in august, our room was clean and a good size with a lovely terrace- an excellent hotel for just over £80 per night. There is no restaurant at the hotel, but the reataurant at the bottom of the drive, the Blue Lavande is excellent, even though the meal cost almost as much as the room!

“Very nice”

Stayed at this hotel for a night June 2005. Really was only using it as an inexpensive stopover as we were travelling through Italy and thought we would make a sidetrip into France. This hotel was extremely clean with a very atractive lobby area and nice pool for relaxing. Both girls at the front desk were extremely helpful in helping to book a last minute hotel in Milano. The village of Valbonne was charming and great for photographs.

“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2006

The hotel is very centrally located for our itinerary (Monaco, Cannes and the Verdon Gorge). Very easy to get to (especially with the help of sat nav). The hotel itself is nice and full of character, not like a "standard" hotel. The room was clean and good size, with a large (firm) comfortable bed. I would expect the hotel to include breakfast in its price (it didn't when booked with expedia), but otherwise I would recommend this hotel.

“A wonderful, peaceful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2005

We have stayed at this hotel on 3 occasions over the last 4 years. It is a lovely hotel if you want peace and tranquility. The rooms are super and very provencal with nice soft coloured decor and hand painted stencils on the walls. The rooms are well serviced and kept immaculately clean and all have a spacious terrace or balcony and pristine bathrooms with a separate WC. The pool at the hotel is on the first floor and although not huge, its is gorgeous - very comfy sunbeds with big thick comfy cushions and nice white towels to go over them. We have always stayed at the beginning of September and the pool area is always quiet and peaceful with just just the sound if the birds or a cockeral crowing and the scent of lavender in the air from the well tended garden.
The hotel does not have a restaurant as such but there is a conservatory where breakfast is served or you can have it delivered to your room to have on your balcony/terrace. Try the rose petal jam, it is absolutely delicious. During the day you can order sandwiches, omelettes and the like and you can have them by the pool where there is also a pool side bar. There is a restaurant at the bottom of the drive called La Bleue Lavande where the food is wonderful also La Relais De La Vignette just along the road toward the village which also served delicious cuisine. Also to be recommended are La Broche De Fer at Mougins only about a ten minute drive away and La Chandellerie in the village of Valbonne itself. Cafe D'Arcade in the village does wonderful pizzas!.
The village of Valbonne is small but very beautiful, and there is a maze of little narrow cobbled streets leading off the main square (Place D'Arcade) which have many restaurants and interesting shops and artists studios. The local bus goes into the centre of Cannes takes about 20/30 minutes depending on the traffic and saves you having to try to find parking in Cannes which could be difficult. There are lovely villages nearby - Mougins, Biot, Tourettes Sur Loup and at Pont Du Loup you can visit the Confiserie Florian where they make the wonderful rose petal jam previously mentioned and all sorts of sweets and crystalised fruits which you can purchase in the factory shop. You can also take a tour of the factory to see how all the products are made - still hand made in the old fashioned way. The town of Grasse is also very nearby and there you can visit all the wonderful perfume factories.
I would thoroughly recommend the Hotel Castel Provence and the village of Valbonne and the surrounding area. Please also be aware that the hotel is about 2 km south of the village and although I have often walked into the village, this might not be suitable for more elderly people or those with children as some parts of the road have no pavement - also note that the driveway leading to hotel is on quite a steep slope. However, driving into the village only takes a few minutes and there is a large municipal parking area on the left just as you enter the village.
Another bonus is that Nice airport is only about a 20 minute drive.
Bonne Vacance!!
