“Idyllic, a really special place”

It isn't the kind of luxury you find in a swanky shiny hotel but it is the kind of luxury I like coming from a big city like London. It's a quiet getaway in the treetops, it's peaceful, it's natural and it's personal. Diane was very helpful in when booking as well as when we had problems getting there (we got the bus from Nice - quite easy and pleasent - but there are 2 buses going to St Paul de Vence that don't both stop in the same place. Our taxi was waiting at the other bus stop!) You also get personal touches like a glass of regional wine and nibbles on arrival, advice on local excellent restaurants from the Michelin starred to the cook over a fire type (so many within a ten minute walk - well this is Provence!)

It's perfect for a romantic weekend because there is no where else like it. You have your own detached space in the tree, a balcony, a natural pool and we even had our own swings under neath the tree house! St Paul de Vence is also a lovely town for relaxing and sampling the local cafe culture. We also did a lovely walk to Vence ( very hot when we were there). For us this was a treat for a long weekend. It wasn't cheap but I felt the experience over all was well worth it.

“5* price for a 3* service”

The grounds are lovely with the tree houses tucked away around the natural pool in the garden. We had a warm welcome despite the rather ferocious looking dog. The treehouse was quaint but lacking in any form of commodity- no showergel or bath products, we had to ask for a kettle, very low lighting, 1 small radiator- luckily there are a couple of duvet covers. The tree house was also infested with ants that kept falling from the ceiling into the bed! When we arrived there were already hundreds on the bedspread-this went unnoticed by the person who showed us to our rooms. The pillowcases didnt look extra clean either. When I brought the ant matter up the next day upon check out, the person seemed rather unconcerned and just mentioned they had treated the treehouse for the problem and that it was expected as we were in the countryside! One positive point: the breakfast basket in the morning was however excellent and fresh and brought on time.
In all a nice unusual getaway for a romantic break but the overall service is definately not worth the price.

“Liked the treehouse idea but shame about the service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

Interesting idea, original, a very relaxing ambience, beautiful grounds. Better for warmer weather, bedrooms have heaters but quite chilly during winter. Breakfast was basic, help-yourself, host was not present, until called upon. Not good value for money, high rate for winter month.

Sometimes, one just fails ! And that brings learning.

This year, we tested if the treehouses are attractive for winter-weekends. We found out they are when it is not too cold - and when we do some changes they will be even on the coldest winter nights.

Next winter, there will be bigger heaters and we will offer a real winter treehouse experience - as soon as we have it all set, we will post pictures on our website.

“Disappointing”

The treehouses are set in the owner's back garden just outside St Paul de Vence and the area is quite built up.

The treehouses have some nice touches and it's impressive that they fit in a bathroom, but one of our showers didn't work at all and the other one was only satisfactory once we had cleaned the head of built-up limescale. The bottom six inches of our shower curtain was covered in black mildew.

A nice breakfast is served every day with tasty home made jams. But the lack of any cooking or even any food preparation facilities made it a hard work with a family. There are no clothes washing facilities at all (either a washing machine for guests or a laundry service), which again makes it difficult to manage with a family. As their minimum stay is 7 nights in the summer this just doesn't seem practical or well thought through.

The treehouses cost nearly £350 a night in the summer and this just did not feel like good value compared to our wonderful camping experience before or even our luxurious stay at a 5 star hotel immediately after.

“Tree house perfect valentines”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2010

We thoroughly enjoyed our escape to the country. Not only was it a fabulous location and the tree houses impeccably built, but the finishing touches in the room were simply perfect. Though at this time of the year we didn't get the use of the natural pool it looked fabulous none the less and we shall certainly be returning. Diane was a fabulous host and made us feel most welcome, her bread/croissant coffee basket breakfast in bed was also perfect.
Recommended for a romantic break and also a family adventure with the kids. If you have a dog, he/she will love it too, as ours did!
