We did our usual research before choosing a hotel in Nice for a 3 night stay. Stayed in Nice 2 years ago at a different Best Western Hotel so have had previous experience of the brand. Upon arrival , receptionist Irina was extremely helpful going through a map of Nice to explain locations which may interest us etc.
We were give room 306 which was a superior room located at the front of the building. Large windows looking out over the main street room was spotlessly clean, separate bathroom and loo. Nice furnishings and comfortable bed. No air conditioning available we were advised so the room did get too warm. On our first morning we were woken at approx 7.30am, for all the world it sounded like we were in the middle of a building site! The trams run directly outside the hotel which do create some noise, however there is a large amount of work going on laying new pavements on the opposite side of the hotel. The noise continued all day until approx 6pm. If we opened the windows in our room when we had called back to drop shopping off etc we literally couldn't here ourselves speak! Not the hotels fault but it would have been polite if we had been prewarned!
I am sure that once the airconditioning is available and the pavement works are finished it will make residents stays much more comfortable and bearable.
Breakfast! Where do I begin? Breakfast served 7am to 10.30 morning one arrived for breakfast at about 9.30am. Tables hadn't been cleared from previous guests the room was in a shambolic state, we cleared a table for ourselves! We had to use saucers from our cups and saucers as plates as there were none clean. One guest asked for croissants as the basket on the counter was empty! She was told No! Finished very abruptly! this also happened on another morning when 2 guests refused to eat in there and left.
There was never a great deal of food left from say 9.30 onwards, what made this bearable was meeting some lovely Irish and English guests who we could laugh about the situation, it was so bad it was funny!!!!
Location central for shops, restaurants and station , promenade d'anglais a bit of a walk but worth it.
Hotel has some good points but far to many bad at the moment. The works outside the hotel will end and this will make things more pleasant, however I would strongly recommend the hotel to take a close look at breakfast service and offerings.
If the pavement works are still going on in front of the hotel ask for a room at the back of the hot...
