I chose this hotel for its location. Well situated, in the heart of the medieval city of Hyeres, I felt it would be an excellent choice. I encountered night bugs that ate me up and I was unable to use my bathroom, due to a reflux issue! These bugs were a type of big fleas with hooks on their sides. I've had to be treated by urgent care due to a secondary type infection.

There is no elevator, no security, no AC. I was extemely disappointed to say the least.

I've read all the negatives reviews on the Hotel de Portalet and came to a conclusion that they share one common opinion: people who wrote them expected an hotel with a perfect location, quiet, with a range of services, and cheap at the same time. Well my dear friends that is not possible in our not that perfect world. If you demand a 4 stars comfort be ready to pay 4 stars rates. If you are on a budget be ready to sacrifice some of your comfort.
Hopel de Portalet is a hotel with a perfect location right in the heart of the Old Town. The rooms are quite big and clean, and the staff extremely friendly. And the rate is around 50 euros per night (with promotions down to 35 euros per night in the off season). The only thing I can complain of is the rooms acoustic. It's not ideal and you can hear your neighbours well enough. This can be really annoying espl. when your neighbours are not quiet, and this factor will lower my mark for this hotel prom projected "5" to "4". To cut it short - it's a good budget hotel.

Stayed here for one night after visiting Iles d`Hyeres. Hyeres itself is a lovely medieval town well worth a night`s stay and this was the only hotel in the old town. We booked online and only paid 50 euros but we still expected better. The reception area was quite smart but the room was smallish with high celings and the double bed was tiny with a very hard mattress. The TV was very high up making it extremely uncomfortable to watch and there was NO AIR CONDITIONING! We had to borrow a fan which was noisy and not very effective. There was no noise from outside however as the town seemed to go to sleep very early.The bathroom had not been cleaned well. Overall this was not worth even 50 euros and I`d stay somewhere else if I ever revisit.

We strongly disagree with the previous post. Our stay in the Portalet was very pleasant. We stopped there for 3 nights with 2 young children (3 and 4) and our au-pair and we all agreed that location is ideal for town centre, restaurants and sightseeng, it was not noisy at all as we kept windows shut at night anyway and were away all day. Ideal for airport as only took us 20 mins by taxi.
We prepared ourselves for worst as never been in 2* hotel before and were very pleased to find that rooms vere large and clean (cleaned and linen changed daily), bathroom fittings modern, bedlinen and towels of a good quality. The only thing missing was a kettle and no sockets in the room. Cant tell much about breakfast as had it elsewhere. The staff was very polite, did not speak much lingo, but tried hard to help - got us some maps of town, gave directions and filled our flask when we went on outings. Left baggage there after checking out no problems
Would recommend hotel to anyone apart from people with limited mobility as stairs quite steep.
