I know that almost every hotel on TA (even the great ones) has negative reviews since it is inevitable that some guests will have an unpleasant experience, but I want to assure anybody reading this that this was not an isolated incident. This hotel is run-down, dirty, and a guaranteed romance-killer.

As somebody that is very indecisive and reads as many reviews as possible before committing to something, it is generally difficult to pick a hotel. With Hotel Lido Beach, however, I immediately decided that this would be a great hotel to top off 2 weeks in France - a quaint family-run hotel right on the beach. I imagined the stereotypical cute french couple inviting us to enjoy fresh pastries on a lovely ocean-side deck, and falling asleep to the sound of the waves and a cool ocean breeze. Instead, i found myself on a dilapidated, wasp-infested rocky yard, gagging on shoe-sole croissants, trying to fall asleep to the sound of my girlfriend taking her 5th cold shower in our room/sauna. Our ground floor room was a depressing, steamy cell with a mold-covered bathroom (see pics). Since being in the room was not an option, we opted for the uncomfortable beach chairs on the scorching deck; unfortunately, here we were surrounded by mutant wasps and morbidly obese guests putting sunblock on their backfat. At least there was a nice breeze....oh wait, that was just a cloud of hot cigarette smoke. We had planned on staying a few nights, but at the end of the first day, we decided to leave the next morning (even though the owners insisted on billing the whole stay). the plan was to go to sleep early and just wake up and drive to our next destination, but this was impossible. The room was so hot that we had to alternate taking cold showers; when i got in bed and my girlfriend leaned over to console me, i said "i'm so sweaty, don't touch me".

Right before we left in the morning, we saw a sign right by the entrance that gave us both one of the best laughs of the entire trip: "Hotel Cool Inside" (see picture) . So cruelly ironic that I had to bump them to 2 stars. avoid at all costs!
