“We loved it and we'll be back”

We spent last weekend in imperial garoupe.
We nearly backed out of the booking having read trip adviser reviews.
The owner manager seemed very pleasant despite having been made out
on trip adviser as an absolute tyrant.Breakfast was lovely in the courtyard and there was a great selection.
Pool was adorable and heated..
The hotel loungers at sea were really comfortable but I did think 27 euros each was expensive. Rooms may be slightly dated but very comfortable and clean. Food and service in restaurant was excellent. We have stayed in The Sandy Lane hotel , Burj al Arab , Eden Roc and many other best hotels in the world so therefore I feel that this hotel has been very unfairly treated by Trip Advisor.

“Awful, overpriced, rude management. Will never be back”

The management/owner was rude with no sense of what hospitality is about. The service, food and quality of the rooms was poor and below the expectations of a 5 star property. The hotel is overpriced for the service and quality of the rooms that it provides. This leaves one with the feeling of having been ripped off. Would definitely never return or recommend this property. Will be interesting to see how many more poor reviews of this hotel there will be in the future..

These comments have been written by the same people. We are now at the third comment
(1st, 17th and 18th of August).

As these people are in the hotel Industry, we could do exactly the same with their hotels.
I have been in this business for 35 years and i will certainly not do it with them.
I am above all this and i just feel ashamed for the Industry that colleagues could have such a behaviour. I leave it to them and we will certainly soon our later have a clear explaination on all this as we are part of the same chain.

“We will not be staying here again”

During a recent stay at this hotel we were expecting to find standards that are boasted by the Relais & Chateau organisation but were bitterly disappointed. The foremost complaint is about the rudeness and lack of respect shown to us and other guests who stayed during our visit.
The food generally was inedible, the breakfast did not measure up to even a 2-star hotel and the only food that was enjoyable was at their beach club.
The standards of the linens, furnishings and maintenance were more than poor and would never pass a 5-star grading up to the standard of other English or European hotels.
I heartedly warn anyone who is considering going to stay at this hotel.

Please, read our answer from the comments of August 6th, 2011.

This note has been written by the same people and to us it takes all credibility away from the purpose of tripadvisor. We do not believe that it is a playground for personal matters.
We will not comment any further.

“Wish we had checked with Trip Advisor first!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

Our big mistake, we should have looked up the Imperial Garoupe on Trip Advisor before we booked! Not too many nice things to say about this place, besides that it is a pretty property. Guess there is a reason they want all their money up front....who would stay? We stayed 5 days, and while the grounds are lovely and well tended, guests are not so much. Some of the staff were nice and really tried, but others seem to have the same mentality as the owner/manager who has missed the plot: the art of hospitality!
Breakfast was a "buffet" consisting of a few pastries, some very boring fruit salad and a few yogurts. (Coffee was great, I'll give them that!) Lunch by the beach not so bad. Dinner was inedible, thus not a suprise that nobody seems to be at dinner at the hotel! All in all not a great experience and very overpriced. Hardly a 5 star experience: the rooms are dingy and old, the beds are from another century (with only 2 flat, measly pillows provided), and the service leaves alot to be desired. Its a shame, such a beautiful part of the world, a great location and a pretty setting. They need to take stock and go back to the drawing board I'm afraid.....I do not recommend this hotel.

“The Absolute Worst Hotel in World - a disgrace that it has one star”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

We went to this hotel as it was part of the Relais and Châteaux chain (which is meant to represent great food and hospitality). It is abysmal. From the moment we arrived, we were unwelcomed. There are rules for everything. The owner walks around intimidating his staff and even attacks guests. His staff tries to tell all guests what they can do and what they cant. It is an over priced Fawlty Towers, but without an once a humour. Rather one feels uncomfortable everywhere in the hotel (interesting that in the week we were there, there was never a single person in the bar and that’s during July in Antibes!)

The rooms are old and shabby. The food is inedible. The grounds are impeccable,, as that’s what they spend their time focused on. This is truly a mediocre camp at best. It has no resemblance, what so ever, to any five star (maybe even three star) hotel you will ever stay in… anywhere in the world.

Dear Sirs,

Evereyone is free to write what he wants to say about us. We just want to point out that in this particular case the reasons for these comments are completely different from what is written.

We believe that it is not necessary for us to answer to all these.

We only have one message : the hotel is not for sale and we are sure that the person will understand.
