“The best B&B in the world!”

My boyfriend and I had the most incredible stay with Eric and Augusto. We travelled for over a month and stayed in five B&Bs and this was without a doubt the highlight. The room is simple but has a very comfortable bed, CDs, DVDs, and a lovely bathroom with a HUGE shower. We felt very much at home here. When we arrived at the door our names were written in chalk on the board - it was a lovely touch! Augusto greeted us with a map they had copied highlighting their favourite cafes and restaurants in Arles (all of which were just superb!). Eric was very helpful with telling us which things to see and do in Arles. Before bed each night Augusto asked us when and what we wanted for breakfast! I am gluten intolerant so he went out of his way to cut up extra fruit etc and offered to get me gluten free bread etc. The breakfast was just beautiful....we fell in love with Eric's home made yogurt and jams.

On the second night we had drinks and escargot with them before heading off for dinner which was great fun and a cultural experience! We learnt a lot about the community life there just by speaking with them and they also took us to the daily "advent window": a show put on every day in the lead up to Christmas from a villager's window (followed by mulled wine!). On our last night they joined us for dinner at one of their recommended places and eric informed us about all of the different dishes and we all got to try a bit of everything. In the morning they also took us to the train station. We had the most amazing time, we felt that this was an incredibly small price to pay for such a wonderful experience. Thank you so very much Eric and Augusto....we will most certainly be back!

“A great place”

All the other reviews are right on. What makes this place great is the B&B itself, the location and your hosts, Eric and Augusto.

It's a very old townhouse and you get the main floor with a good sized bedroom and quite a large bathroom. All the things you might need have been thought of from the bathrobe to the DVDs and beyond. Breakfast is a real treat filled with home made goodies. Next time I'll take in dinner with the guys as I'd bet it's marvelous.

You're a block away from the main museum and surrounded by the old city of Arles with so much to explore. It's Roman history and art and food with a magnificent river view down the side. Do go to Arles and do stay at L'Aubergine Rouge and enjoy the great company of your hosts.

Room Tip: Only one room offered, the main floor of this ancient townhouse. Large room with large well equipped...

“Wonderful home in a great location”

We knew we had arrived in the right place when we read our names and a welcome writtenin chalk on the front door of this lovely b&b which has only one room to let on the ground floor. The location is very central within walking distance of everything. The shower is big and the bed is comfortable. Eric and Agusto are great hosts full of information about places to go and good places to eat. Each morning breakfast was a treat and the fresh home meade yoghurt has sent me scurrying to learn how to do it now that I am home. Never again will we eat store bought yoghurt.. Free internet was reliable and fast and the upstairs terrace was the ideal place to have breakfast. We can't wait to return to Arle and L'aubergine Rouge. Thanks fellas

“Like staying with really nice friends!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2011

What really sets this place apart are its hosts. Very friendly. More like staying with really nice friends than at a hotel!

Plus, the room was cosy and clean, the breakfasts tasty, and there was fast internet access. We had dinner with the hosts on the night we got there and enjoyed the conversation and 70's french music. Eric set us with local and area maps. On the last day, we had to leave at 5:30AM to catch a flight and Eric was thoughtful enough to prepare a thermos of coffee and cake on the night before.

“Knights in Shining Armour”

Travelling by train in France during the transportation "interruptions" created a few eventful days. We were unable to travel the day we were to arrive at L'Aubergine Rouge and the next day, after a long troublesome journey, we arrived in Arles at 10:45 p.m. to a dark, deserted train station. After pulling luggage from the bus hold, I turned to see a young man holding a chalkboard with our names printed on it. Eric and Agusto had waited almost an hour for our bus as they knew the cabs in the town did not run at that time of the evening. Our luggage was placed in the trunk and we were chauffered to Eric's home and our accommodation on the ground floor. Once inside, Eric offered home made soup and fresh baked bread for the weary travellers. Eric's home was our home and made our stay in Arles very enjoyable. Our next travel day was also "interrupted" and we were advised we needed to catch a bus at 5:30 a.m. Remember, no cabs. Again, Eric to our rescue. Eric was ready to go at 5:10 a.m., (my request) and although we were early, as Eric said we would be, it gave us an opportunity to see a starry starry night where "starry starry night" was originally seen. Eric and Augusto, thank you.
