My wife and I spent a week at the Maison Rouge in late September and had a delightful experience there. We liked the tranquil setting just 10 minutes or so from Aix-en-Provence. From the house, all of Provence is reachable in day trips with a car. We and our friends had two of the three guest rooms in the house—both upstairs and each with its own bathroom, though down the hall. The size and cleanliness of the rooms was good. Although the decor is traditional, the house is only seven years old, as one can tell from the modern windows, bathroom fixtures, etc. The showers are great. Unlike most chambres d’hotes in France, this one provides a sumptuous breakfast, surpassing even the best American B&B’s we have stayed in. Our hostess, Dominique, spent summers in the UK as a child; she speaks good English and is very outgoing and informative. She understands what her guests are seeking and does a wonderful job of providing it. If they are the least bit unsure what they want to do in the area, she happily provides guidance. After our daytime travels, we often had dinner in Aix, where favorite restaurant was the Bistro Latin. We count ourselves very fortunate to have found the Maison Rouge. We chose it sight unseen and based mostly on the rave reviews from people of all nationalities in Trip Advisor, which were entirely justified and which confirm the value of this service.
