We had the privilege of staying for a week at la Maison Rouge with Dominique Paulu as our hostess. When we arrived at her beautiful home Dominique greeted us with open arms and a warm smile. We immediately felt as though we had just returned to the home of a dear friend.
Our bedroom, "Froggy's Room" was adorned by delightful representations of frogs in many forms from ceramic ones to paintings. The large and comfortable room was furnished with beautiful antiques. Our ensuite bathroom had a fabulous deep tub which made bathing very luxurious. From the room we could access the lovely patio and garden with it's large and inviting swimming pool.
We were free to share the living room and to use the kitchen as our own. Wifi was available in the living room but could also be accessed in the bedroom and patio but the signal ws not as strong. A fridge in the upstairs lounge was available to store food or chill wine.
The table groaned at breakfast. There was always a variety of breads and croissants, assorted jams and jellies, eggs, wonderful French cheeses, a refreshing fruit juice, a specialty cake baked by Dominique and of course coffee and tea. I'm sure no guest ever left without requesting the recipe for her famous apple cake.
Dominique was a fountain of knowledge about the area and was able to direct us to wherever we wanted to go. One day she accompanied us to her favorite haunt, Cucuron, where we spent a pleasant afternoon together. The reflecting pool was a beautiful sight.
Our experience at La Maison Rouge was very special indeed. Dominque, merci pour tous. Vous avez été très gentils avec nous.
