I think most Trip Advisor users will really like this hotel and have as enjoyable a stay as we did. We booked this hotel just a few days before leaving, as we had been let down by a nearby hotel just before setting off to catch the ferry, so we did not really know what to expect. The hotel is charming and attractive, but is quite bohemian, so expect relaxed service of a family kind, laid back not people rushing after you like they may do in a chain hotel (if you are lucky!). The rooms are all very individually designed and the owners put in a lot of their own art work, not all the colour schemes may appeal, but it is fun and different. No air conditioning and you need it in August in Cognac. However, investing 13 Euros in a cool air fan at the local supermarket sorted out that problem. The shower was a bit weedy, but I say that at nearly every hotel I stay in. The separate shower room with sink and toilet is not my favourite layout, but you get used to it! The half open, half enclosed restaurant is relaxed and friendly, the food is really good, if a bit limited in choice, and the wine list is good too. You are right in the centre of town, but - apart from the shagging cats one night - pretty quiet. By the end of our nine night, ten day stay we were great friends with the owners and staff. It is not a hotel for chasing lots of stars, but makes up for it by being characterful. It was a traditional hotel fallen on hard times and over the years the owners have put a really fun individual spin on the theme.
