“OK, but would try elsewhere next time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

This hotel is OK for what we did, stay over en route for northern Spain. It is a basic hotel which has been done up, I would say stylishly, others did not agree. Main thing is use of bright colours, so a grey room with one old peice of furniture painted bordeux red, variations on that theme. But underneath the paint it is a plain, basic French provincial hotel for the full price. Rooms are large but quite barely furnished and noise carries.
My main gripe was the attitude of the owners. We arrived on a holiday and were made to feel that we were imposing and ruining what was supposed to be a holiday for them (I thought we were on holiday and paying). Same carried over to the next morning when I met the owner in the hall and said I would like to check out, but he then approached some French visitors and started up a long conversation keeping me waiiting at reception. Not quite sure what was wrong, but we did not seem to be their ideal or welcome guests.

“Good location, pray for a good neighbour and don't opt for the breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

I stayed for 1 night in Hotel Heritage. It is located among the shops and cafes along a peaceful street, of which nearby is Hennessy, Martell and Camus cognac centres.
When we reached, we have adifficulty finding the hotel as its door was closed and from the outside, it looked more like a restaurant. Not much of a problem since we rang the doorbell to enquire.
The staff were ok, but not eager to provide more information nor to engage in friendly conversation with you. Is fine since we have done our own research on cognac.
The hotel has character with artistic charm, with beautiful drawings/ decorations but odd coloured walls. The room is clean but without air-conditioning which could be stuffy during summer. One major drawback is the thin walls- you can hear your neighbour's alarm clock ringing, and even every movement like plugging into sockets, opening and closing of doors which can greatly disturb your sleep.
Please do not pay 8€ for the breakfast. What we found were only a few pieces of pathetically burnt croissants, melted butter, blend natural flavoured yogurt and cereal and some fruits of which a few are going bad. When we requested for fruit yogurt, the staff pointed to the fruits and the natural yogurt. The only thing which looks appetising is probably the drinks.

“Charming, dated but wearing it well - like a comfortable pair of old slippers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2011

We stayed at Hotel Heritage for 1 night in June 2011. It is very well situated in the old part of the town, with all the positive things that go with it - charm, history, ambiance etc.

The building and decor is not new, its worn-in rather than worn-out. If you like a bit of character or quirkiness this is for you, if you prefer chain hotels, they are availabale in to town.

If yoou get there early enough there is limited parking, else there is public parks a few mins walk away (although you can drive to very near the hotel to drop your baggage off). We had to carry our luggage up a flight of steps - not a big problem.

Unfortunately the restaurant was closed the night we spent there, but the menu looked very inviting.

Also the staff can give you vouchers for 2 for 1 deals for cognac tours.

Good value, and recommended.

“Good hotel, restaurant fantastic”

We stayed for one night and the hotel was really nice. The evening meal was superb and good value for money. The driving round Cognac is a challenge with all the one way streets, but the hotel is in a great location and excellent value.

“You want character? Here it is”

I think most Trip Advisor users will really like this hotel and have as enjoyable a stay as we did. We booked this hotel just a few days before leaving, as we had been let down by a nearby hotel just before setting off to catch the ferry, so we did not really know what to expect. The hotel is charming and attractive, but is quite bohemian, so expect relaxed service of a family kind, laid back not people rushing after you like they may do in a chain hotel (if you are lucky!). The rooms are all very individually designed and the owners put in a lot of their own art work, not all the colour schemes may appeal, but it is fun and different. No air conditioning and you need it in August in Cognac. However, investing 13 Euros in a cool air fan at the local supermarket sorted out that problem. The shower was a bit weedy, but I say that at nearly every hotel I stay in. The separate shower room with sink and toilet is not my favourite layout, but you get used to it! The half open, half enclosed restaurant is relaxed and friendly, the food is really good, if a bit limited in choice, and the wine list is good too. You are right in the centre of town, but - apart from the shagging cats one night - pretty quiet. By the end of our nine night, ten day stay we were great friends with the owners and staff. It is not a hotel for chasing lots of stars, but makes up for it by being characterful. It was a traditional hotel fallen on hard times and over the years the owners have put a really fun individual spin on the theme.
