The All Seasons Angouleme Nord is located off the highway, north of Angouleme, in a hotel zone featuring many 2* and 3* hotels.

Apparently it used to be a Novotel but is now part of the "All Seasons" brand, which is also part of the Accor group (ie. your Accor card will be honoured and you will get Accor points for staying at the All Seasons).

The main differences from its former days as a Novotel seem to be no restaurant for lunch and dinner and a slightly dated 70s-style carpeting in the halls. However breakfast is provided and is nice (and one can come down as early as 5am and get real coffee in all guises from the breakfast room) and one can eat at the nearby steak house (presenting your hotel key there will get you a 10% discount).

The staff was extremely friendly, the internet worked flawlessly, the TV has dozens of channels, the workdesk was small but functional and uncramped, the deskchair was comfortable, and the bathroom was clean with a nice shower.

So, although this hotel is located far out of town and is not a 5*, it fit my needs perfectly and I plan to return to it on all my future stays in Angouleme.
