This was a bit of a surprise given some of the reviews. Although it is certainly a bit tired and limited in facilities and the service is haphazard, it is very well situated for the town and the food was surprisingly good. Our room was large and comfortable though the beds were a bit low and the furnishings needed a bit of tlc. The manager was very pleasant but his assistant needs to learn to smile! If you have anything bigger than a Clio/Fiesta you'll have to work hard to get into the garage - space is tight - there is parking elsewhere if you need it. Overall a pleasant overnight stay in a delightful town.

My second ever review, we loved this place. Whenever I book a hotel in France, I am always comforted by a few negative reviews! If you want a sterile environment then go and stay in one of the chain hotels. When I stay in France I want to absorb some French culture, and this hotel is so wonderfully french, its old with lovely eneven stairs, its a bit quirky and the loo was set at an odd angle, but it is clean and smart compared to many provincial hotels I have stayed in. I thought it was very good value for money, we had a family room for 120 Euros (sleeping 5 of us plus a bay in a cot) and the childrens breakfast was free! The town is stunning too and this hotel is right at its heart. The car park is a bit tight and yes you have to pay extra for it, but that is the same for nearly all town centre hotels in France.

On a driving trip around the world our transmission blew a gear out the side in Laon, France. Assan the manager of the lovely ancient hotel Banniere, took us in and took care of every thing. Including the transmission. All he had left was his smallest room, but he gave us a great price, and it was just big enough for two. The entire staff was friendly and helpfull. Thanks to the warmth and competence of Assan, what should have been a nightmare for two non french speaking americans was instead one of the highlights of our trip.

Comfortable hotel, excellent welcome, parking available, good internet.
I had a problem with needing to get several emails printed, but the owner accepted them to his personal email address and printed them out. It was rather more complicated than that and took quite a long time. He was keen to sort it out for me and made no complaint about how long it took. He could not have been more helpful – very good service indeed.
