We spend 5 nights in this Hotel, better an historic place. Have you ever had a hotel that has its origin in 1640, founded as a hospice for 13 old men? That was still a hospice until 1994 with about 200 nuns tending elderly people? A hotel with weekly a guided tour showing its places of interest, including an original small church?
But is this all enough to be a five stars Hotel?
We had a room, about 230 euro a night without breakfast, composed of three cells of the nuns: St Benoit, overlooking one of the inner courts. A bedroom with TV, a room to sit with a wardrobe, couldn’t see the TV, not very cosy, and one was bathroom, shower in the bath and toilet in the bathroom. Heating (electric) in the bathroom was ok, but in the other rooms a problem. And it was noisy. We knew when our upstairs neighbours went in the shower or bath and the seven o’clock walk of one of the personnel over the corridor waked us up.
The gastronimique restaurant we never tried, as our experiences in the Brasserie Estaminet were not very successful for the food and for the waiters. The breakfast was average, insufficient replenished in the last hour.
In one of the inner courtyards a bar was made. The roof of a modern glass construction and a perfect interior made it a very nice place to stay. The staff in the bar and at the reception were most correct and helpful. The car was taken care of and stood ready in frotn of the hotel when we left.
The hotel is situated near the Beffroi and about 5 minutes walk to the old city center.
When we go back to Lille (there is a lot to see and it has the most beautiful museums) I wonder if we would chose the Hermitage again, and if, I’ll ask for a modern room.
Room Tip: chose a modern room, not the old cell of a nun
