“Classic example of overpriced basic hotel in France”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2010

This hotel is practical - right in front of Toulouse's train station. The façade is horrible. Inside is spotless but very basic. I felt like I was sleeping at the YMCA but paying 60 euros to do so. Lying in our small double bed on clean but worn sheets and a quilt-type bedspread, we listened to someone peeing in a room above ours. Double glazing did keep 95% of the traffic noise at bay, though. The bathroom in Room 203 - for disabled people, I think - is beautiful, in small olive green tiles, brand-new fittings and an Italian shower.
Breakfast, at 7.50 euros is one croissant, a roll and a glass of industrial, cleaner-strength orange juice already laid out on the tables before guests arrive, and the best dog-taste coffee that a 2* hotel can buy.
We got here late and left early for a train transfer, so it suited us fine. No hotel in North America would get away with charging their rate for what they offer, but this isn't North America.

“No big complaints but nothing spectacular”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2009

I was wavering between 3 and 4 stars, but I was thinking of all the other one's I've given 4 stars to, and this one was not quite as good. The good parts are that it is as convenient as possible to the train station. I was arriving late, so I didn't want to be hauling any luggage anywhere, even if it was just a backpack, so it was perfect for that. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the rest of downtown though, so if you don't have much luggage and will be staying a couple days, you might want something closer to downtown. I didn't find the neighborhood sketchy. It's on a very main/well-lit road, and the road downtown is equally as main/well-lit. Yes there is a "Club d'ambiance" as they call it nearby, and also an adult store, but they pretty much just sit there. So you only get offended if you go in. And some may find that convenience a plus.

I also was impressed by the service. The guy at the front desk was very friendly and helpful, and the woman the next morning was very nice too. And they're open 24 hours, which is nice. And they have free wi-fi. I also liked the second door between the hall and the bedroom part of the room, which might have been nice if it were noisy. I was here in December though, so it was pretty quiet anyway. It was also very clean. The comforter was a bit worn, but for 50 euros, you can't complain too much about that. The bed was comfortable, and like I said, everything was clean.

The first minus I noticed was the heat. Now, most people probably don't go here in the dead of winter, but it was right at freezing outside when I arrived, and in my room, the heater had not been turned on, so it took a while to heat up. And then when it got to its temperature, it turned off until it got cold again, and then heated up again. Again, not a big deal, but it would have been nice to have it more consistent. Also, the wi-fi network didn't reach my room, so I had to go downstairs to use it. And last, no shower curtain. I have no idea why, but my room had neither curtain nor pole. Perhaps it was being lent to the club d'amibance a couple doors down, but I digress...

For me, it was perfectly adequate. There are lots of hotels around, so if you want something a little better, you can take your chances, but for me, I know I could have done a lot worse, so I'd probably stay there again if I go to Toulouse again.

“A plain but useful Budget Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2009

Hotel D’Orsay room 120 overlooks a very busy thoroughfare, but once the double glazing windows were shut and with a very quiet air conditioning unit on all night (to counter some 22 degrees centigrade after cold England) we slept undisturbed and comfortably on a 4.6. reasonably firm bed in a clean enough and plain room which was roughly 10x12 feet plus shower and wc off. The walls were thick. A lift took us to the first floor. The hotel is very conveniently less than 10 minutes wheelie walk from the station. Red light activity was only slightly in evidence and the streets are somewhat seedy, but harmless enough. 15 minutes walk away is the town centre. I could probably use this hotel again as a budget hole in the ground for a night, but could feel cramped after a couple of days. Hardly spoke to the courteous staff due to being in a rush.

“Convenient and great value”

My parents and I traveled from Germany to Toulouse, Carcassonne and Albi. I chose the Hotel D'Orsay for it's location near the train station and was not disappointed. It was also in walking distance to downtown and we felt very safe to walk around the area even at night. The rooms were pleasant and clean, the staff was helpful and prompt. There were no issues with communication at all, front desk staff spoke English and even some German. We enjoyed the reasonable breakfast evey morning as well. They offered free Internet access and I felt the value received for what we paid was excellent. I would go there again in a heartbeat!

“Handy Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2008

Spent two nights at the Hotel D'Orsay last weekend and were very comfortable. Yes, the area is near the Station and therefore not very up market however the staff are lovely and the beds are clean and comfortable. Breakfast is more than adequate with cereal, fruit juice, yoghurt, coffee and croissants/bread.

Yes there is a sex shop and we also saw three transvestites along from the hotel but , as a previous reviewer said, we weren't hassled.

  • Liked — Clean and comfortable
  • Disliked — Nothing to hook the shower onto at the correct height.
