I was wavering between 3 and 4 stars, but I was thinking of all the other one's I've given 4 stars to, and this one was not quite as good. The good parts are that it is as convenient as possible to the train station. I was arriving late, so I didn't want to be hauling any luggage anywhere, even if it was just a backpack, so it was perfect for that. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the rest of downtown though, so if you don't have much luggage and will be staying a couple days, you might want something closer to downtown. I didn't find the neighborhood sketchy. It's on a very main/well-lit road, and the road downtown is equally as main/well-lit. Yes there is a "Club d'ambiance" as they call it nearby, and also an adult store, but they pretty much just sit there. So you only get offended if you go in. And some may find that convenience a plus.
I also was impressed by the service. The guy at the front desk was very friendly and helpful, and the woman the next morning was very nice too. And they're open 24 hours, which is nice. And they have free wi-fi. I also liked the second door between the hall and the bedroom part of the room, which might have been nice if it were noisy. I was here in December though, so it was pretty quiet anyway. It was also very clean. The comforter was a bit worn, but for 50 euros, you can't complain too much about that. The bed was comfortable, and like I said, everything was clean.
The first minus I noticed was the heat. Now, most people probably don't go here in the dead of winter, but it was right at freezing outside when I arrived, and in my room, the heater had not been turned on, so it took a while to heat up. And then when it got to its temperature, it turned off until it got cold again, and then heated up again. Again, not a big deal, but it would have been nice to have it more consistent. Also, the wi-fi network didn't reach my room, so I had to go downstairs to use it. And last, no shower curtain. I have no idea why, but my room had neither curtain nor pole. Perhaps it was being lent to the club d'amibance a couple doors down, but I digress...
For me, it was perfectly adequate. There are lots of hotels around, so if you want something a little better, you can take your chances, but for me, I know I could have done a lot worse, so I'd probably stay there again if I go to Toulouse again.
