My parents, boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel in the middle of June, 2006. I have never stayed in a hotel room that was so depressing. Our room was a fairly good size, but my parents got a small room with a small bed, smaller bathroom. (The shower is a bathtub you sit in and have to hold the shower head to bathe with.) My parents were also only given one towel, but they got another one after asking the receptionist.

The decor of the rooms was depressing and looked like it had been furnished in the mid-1990s. It was a gloomy room, dirty carpet, and it just was not very clean. On top of that, after we got back from a meal, my parents found a cockroach in their room. So, we had to keep the bags closed for the night. Thank goodness we were there only for one night!

The only decent thing about this hotel was that it was in the city centre, but I certainly would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The Grand Hotel de Metz is smack in the middle of the pedestrian zone, with many cafes and bars just outside the front door. The famous church is just down the street and the river is just a block away. The desk clerk was very helpful and spoke very good English. Metz was surprisingly lively and picturesque. For 59 Euros, the Grand was excellent value.
