“Outstanding food and the most wonderful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2010

We loved our stay at Chateau d'Adomenil, the food is outstanding, a real experience, and the staff really looked after us. The restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere and the food is amongst the best we've ever experienced. We loved the breakfast as well! Luneville is not the prettiest of towns, but the hotel is outside, and this is a good location for exploring Nancy and other places of interest in Lorraine.

“Beautiful but a couple of minor negatives”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2010

This is a stunning property with the most fantastic rural setting. The grounds are vast and a well established lake and river provide a peaceful setting. True there is occasional noise from the nearby railway, but it appeared to be infrequent.

We arrived early and knew that the room would not be ready until 3:00pm so having driven from the UK almost (non-stop) we asked if we could have lunch. This turned out to be a rather formal affair in the main restaurant with the offer of several (expensive) courses or a tasting menu at €95.00 per head. A vast wine selection means that what was meant to be a light lunch, turned out to be a gourmet experience costing about the same as the room rate! Yes it was superb, but WAY too much for lunch. It appears that the menu stays the same for evening, so be warned if you are staying more than one night.

With lunch being such an 'event' we were ready for our (standard) room at 3:00pm. It was probably one of the most tastefully decorated rooms I've stayed in, a high standard and superb size in the main building and proved to be extremely comfortable.

On the down side, breakfast was not great and despite extra 'amuse bouche' type offerings to add interest, it's not value for money €20/head and the service was not of the same standard in the main restaurant.

Another negative was the lack of any decent lounge or bar, somewhat restricting options outside the comfort of your bedroom.

That said - yes this is a lovely hotel with the most fantastic restaurant - but if you stay more than a night (a we did) you'll need transport to find some variety, and Luneville is not the most exciting of places to find it.

“Great stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2008

My husband and I stayed here for four nights in February 2008 and were very satisfied with the accommodations. We stayed in the Sureau room, which was very nicely decorated in shades of peach and salmon. The bed (2 twins connected together) was very comfortable with a great comforter, and the room itself was good-sized. Very nice large bathtub that was great for soaking. Every night when we returned to the room, we found mini-macaroons and fresh fruit waiting for us.

The grounds are also attractive and well-kept, but since we came in winter they were a bit dreary. I can imagine that it will be beautiful come springtime.

As someone else mentioned, the chateau is about 3 km outside of Luneville proper, so if you are coming into town via the rail system, then you will want to make arrangements for a rental car. We came in from Paris and there were several signs in town leading to the Adomenil, so we found it easily, even in the dark.

The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and all speak passable English.

Breakfast is available for guests at 20 euro per person, which is a little pricey considering it's pretty much just coffee or tea, various breads, fruit and yogurt. We only took their breakfast twice and ate in local cafes the rest of the time. The restaurant is supposed to have fabulous cuisine for dinner, but we never got back to the chateau in time to try it.

We had a great time there and I would definitely stay again.

“Fine establishment, wth three minor notes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2007

The chateau is full of charm and sits amid a beautiful rural France property. The chateau and grounds are impeccably maintained. We were there in October and the fall leaves were at their peak. Our room was in the historic chateau and could not have been lovelier. A nice blend of old and new: It was furnished with attractive antiques and had a great view of the grounds. At the same time, it had a modern bathroom with all the amenities. The service was excellent and had nice, personalized touches.

Three things travelers may want to be aware of:

1. The chateau is located outside of Luneville. If Luneville is your primary destination/point of interest, you should know that is somewhat difficult to find if you are unfamiliar with Luneville and the surrounding area. Stay here only if you have access to a car.
2. There is a cattle farm adjacent to the chateau, and we noticed an unpleasant odor wafting our way. This was not noticeable inside the chateau, but was definitely "in the air" outside.
3. Because of its distance from Luneville, there are no restaurant options other than the restaurant in the chateau. While the kitchen and wait staff are highly professional, be aware that the price of a dinner for two could exceed the cost of your room for a night. It is very expensive! A low cost alternative would have been nice.

With these three caveats in mind, I would not hesitate to recommend the chateau. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. The chateau, its rooms, and its grounds take you back to another era. We enjoyed our stay.

  • Liked — Beautiful setting in French countryside.

“Lovely Lorraine Chateau near Luneville”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2007

We enjoyed 3 nights at this wonderful property in the Lorraine, about 20-30 minutes from Nancy and with many pleasant sights nearby. Our room on the first (not ground) floor overlooked the garden and was large by French standards, pleasantly decorated, and very comfortable. In addition to spacious, clean and updated bathroom, there was plenty of storage space for our clothes and emptied luggage. Staff, as at most Relais & Chateaux properties, were gracious and welcoming. Expect your room to be serviced in the morning and evening, with a treat delivered sometime in the mid-afternoon.The restaurant earned a Michelin star, and rightly so by our reckoning; we especially enjoyed the pigeon and ris de veau. Service was outstanding and the selection of local wines was fairly priced. Breakfast is 20 Euros per person, but featured wonderful fresh fruits, breads and local yogurt as well as a great selection of teas. There is a mid-sized pool on the premises, which themselves are beautiful for strolling or lazing about; the road from Luneville provides a quiet run through the country side with little or no traffic. There appeared to be a seminar facility appropriate for small groups, and the seclusion of the property would make it valuable in that respect. Overall, we were extremely pleased with Chateau d'Admoneil, as with almost every R&C affiliate.
