This is my second stay at the Hotel du Parc. It is a converted mansion from the 18th century in a very quiet neighborhood. It is a 5-minute walk from the Ecusson (the ancient city center), The hotel is also a 5-minute walk from the Faubourg de Boutonnet, a charming little street of local shops where there are no tourists, at all. Finally, the hotel is maybe 3 minutes from the essential tram line. The staff are very friendly and helpful and most of them speak English quite well (well enough to make a reservation by phone). This is a 2-star hotel, so it is not deluxe. But it is very, very comfortable (at the high end of 2-stars), the decor is absolutely lovely, the showers work (the water is hot), the breakfast is pretty good, and the rooms are surprisingly inexpensive. Also, free parking in the gravel courtyard. Not only that, the wifi is free and it works.

Room tip: Rooms 8 and 14 have private balconies; rooms 9 and 10 are the largest; rooms facing the interior courtyard are the most charming (and quietest).

Haven't yet stayed here, but must say that the reservation process (over the phone) was an absolute delight. Kind, accomodating, personnable dame in Montpellier makes me anticipate even more being able to stay at Hôtel du Parc.

Personal attention and top notch breakfast were the highlights of this little hotel. I came ready to use my very elemental French, but was pleasantly surprised to find the couple who own and run the hotel speak great English. An easy walk took us into the old part of this charming city. Nearby are a historic cathedral, one of the world's oldest medical schools and a trolley stop where one can get connections to the rest of town. This was a three-day stop between organized tours and was a refreshing interlude.

We stayed two nights and then returned for a third after a week on the coast. Both times we had room 10, a family room on the first floor. It was nicely decorated, very comfortable and very quiet.

Free wi-fi is a plus, it was easy to get into and worked well.

The hotel is well located, short walk into town and very near the tram. The nearby botanical gardens are worth a visit. As is the zoo, which is a tram and bus ride away but worth the trek. Montpellier aquarium is brilliant, especially the simulation of a ship going through a storm.

Back to the hotel, the staff were lovely, really welcoming, friendly and helpful. Didn't seem to mind our three year old eating all their boiled sweets.

Breakfast was good value at 10 euros (for adults) and offered a great range - lovely.

I would recommend the Hotel du Parc to anyone and would stay again if visiting Montpellier.
