You can't beat the location of the Hotel Donjon - it's right in the centre of the medieaval city of Carcassonne - but it has much more to offer than just its wonderful position! First, the rooms are of an excellent standard - we had a very secluded room with its own private staircase and a fantastic view onto the turrets of the citadel. The furnishings were excellent quality and we also had a large bathroom with a wet room that was very stylishly decorated. In-room facilities are also good - lots of tea and coffee choices, satellite television, free wi-fi and plenty of space for clothes.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming, especially the guy that picked up our luggage from the residents' car park just outside the city walls - we decided to take a walk from there to soak in the atmosphere of this historic city. Breakfasts were also very good - plenty of choice to set you up for a day of sightseeing - there is so much to see within the city but the surroundings are very accessible too and the Cathar castles are well worth the excursion. We also visited the Mas Amiel vineyards in Maury too - producing some of the finest wines of this type.

The hotel also has a very good restaurant next door - fantastic cassoulet and reasonably priced. All in all, the Hotel Donjon is the perfect base for exploring this amazing city - surrounded by history, close to some wonderful restaurants (for a special occasion, try Le Parc just outside the walls - French cuisine at its very best!), nice shops and fantastic sights!

We stayed at the Hotel le Donjon in October. It is is an ideal situation in the centre of the medieval city on Carcassonne. The staff were really freindly and helpful. We booked a deluxe room which has a lovely view over the city wall and castle. The room was very comfortable. We did report the main lights not working and this problem was not resolved but it really didn't matter as there was a plug in lamp that worked perfectly well. As it was very hot whislt we were there we slept with the windows open but beware- Thursday is bin day and delivery day and we were woke very early. However the city is normally traffic free. The Brassiere is well worth a visit to eat- the food was very good and the service friendly.
The bar is open in th evenings but not staffed all the time- however if you go the reception someone will serve you and ti is a very pleasant area.
Breakfast was adequate although I am not sure What the charge is if it is not included in your room price. Nothing special but all you need.
All in all we had a lovely comfortable stay.

Firstly, the parking situation that we had dreaded was a breeze. We had received a map indicating exactly where to go, our name was on the list, and our luggage taken to our room!!! The hotel façade is original and the interior is a dream. Our room was very clean and comfortable, there is AC, a beautiful garden where you can relax, a generous breakfast and helpful staff. There was also transportation to our car. Wonderful experience in a beautiful city!

We stayed only one night in Carcassonne, so location was important. The Les Ramparts building of this hotel was perfect. Quiet, well located within the walls of the city and well-priced. We had been on a rather rustic boating adventure and the great beds and soothing room were a perfect reward!
The winding stone staircase to the rooms made it seem like we were in a castle, but all the amenities were tip-top modern and clean. The concierge at the main building was happy to make reservations for us at Adelaide for dinner. This puts the BEST back into Best Western!!
We would definately stay there again.
