When I bought a flat in this area about 10 years ago, I took every one of my friends to this French bistro beautifully located on the Place Franz Liszt, with the Eglise St Vincent de Paul looming before it. I can still remember the thyme ice-cream I had there..sublime! Ten years on, and the place is still going strong, with one very noticeable improvement..the service! Much less haughty than in the past, and that can only be a good thing, right? When it comes to the food, my friend chose better than I did..a delicious carpaccio of haddock and other fish was divine whereas my starter was quite forgettable..so forgettable in fact, I can't remember what I had...I followed up with some venison..good enough, except there wasn't much of it. My friend stuck with the fish, and once more was rewarded for her choice. A cheese platter followed - we could have as many of the cheeses as we wanted -To finish off, my canny friend wrapped up her excellent meal with roasted figs with a lavender ice-cream -- truly fantastic! Helping keep the palate moist was a reasonably priced bottle of Beaumes de Venise, which was recommended by the waiter when it transpired the Cotes du Rhone I wanted was out of stock. So, how much did we pay for this feast - a mere 32 euros per person excluding wine - very good value considering the number of courses and the quality of the food. I'm selling my flat in Paris now, but it won't be the last time I'll be eating at Chez Casimir...Forget the Marais and its overpriced restaurants and come here for an authentic French meal.
