“Not bad for the price”

The Hotel Garden is in a nice area, it's cheap enough and is well connected for transports. However, it's currently under renovation which means that there is building work happening although this is only disturbing if you are planning a lie in.

No breakfast room on offer due to the works but frankly there's a really nice bakery just down the road so just go for that.

The wifi is a funny one, I didn't understand why it is turned on and off - if you offer wifi keep it on.

I speak French so had no problems with the staff, they were very friendly and helpful.

Overall for €40 a night (what I paid) this was not a bad choice. The accommodation isn't totally up to date but what do you expect? Also Betty says to keep your key with you so don't leave it hanging up - that's just silly.

Room Tip: 105 wasn't bad, a twin room.

“This is not a hotel, dont be fooled by the pictures”

Just returned from paris after spending £110 per night for what can only be described as a hostel. On getting there i found that no one spoke any english, the cafe/breakfast room was under renovation so no breakfast, there was no wifi and too my horror upon reaching my room the beds were all flipped over as if it had been raided by the police. I was put in the infamous room 101 which as the previous reviews said is very basic but at least provided a bed. Although clean this hostel needs a full renovation and updating to even rival the most basic of hotels. At best i would pay £20 a night if i was to ever return which is doubtful.

“Website very deceiving!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2011

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this 'hotel' which would more accurately be called a hostel. I think your experience would depend on which room you had been allocated.
When we arrived we were put into room 101 (ominously!) and it was hideous - view of a wall, tiny dark room and bathroom with broken shower and broken folding door - it basically lacked any thing positive! I was so disappointed having seen pictures on the website of pretty rooms with little balconies, lamps, pictures - all the things you expect even in a basic hotel! My partner went to see the guy who had checked us in and he spotted another room with open door that looked better so went and asked if we could be moved to that one - the guy was not very happy but did let us - although this was two single beds instead of the double bed - not good in romantic Paris! :0)
Even this room had a shower that was attached to the pole with a plastic tie(which promptly broke), no bedside table or lamp, no pictures just bare brown walls, hairs in the bed, an old blanket on the bed and a sink where the water came out in a tiny trickle and had no plug.
In the end we just spent long days out and about in Paris which was great and just returned to sleep there. We did have breakfast which was fine when you could get someone to come in and get the coffee for you - nothing was explained anywhere about procedures. The ladies were friendly and the location was fine as we used the Metro a lot.
I think if your expectations are of a basic hostel you would think it ok and it is probably great for young backpackers but for a couple looking for a reasonable hotel it is a no no - and if you look at the website you are led to believe it is a nice hotel because the rooms have been staged for photos. We paid over 300 euros for 3 nights too!

“basic, fake photos of rooms on official web site, small room, kind staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2011
1

Pros:
nearby park for kids, 5 min to metro, supermarket close by, bakery close by,
you can easily have your own breakfast and supper in the room,
quite clean,
very kind staff, especially the bold guy, speaking good English, making reservation to the airport, keeping the trolley
Cons:
basic breakfast (bread, jam, butter, coffee, tea),
had to do almost all by myself, the old lady (only speaking french) wasn't up to it,
almost no space for clothing, no wardrobe, no table, no chair,
quadruple room is two beds with two auxiliary folding beds, hardly any space to move.
crowded neighbors
DON'T believe the official site photos

Room Tip: book in advance

“Bedbugs like never before”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2011

The old lady that works there was very friendly, but she just gives keys without any single word of english or explaining. The wifi didnt work, nor did the tv. The room was old and some things broken, but not too bad. The bedbugs just ruined it for us! Until now we are itchy. I have more than 20 bites, including 2 on my forehead! Worst is, i couldnt tell them about it because they dont know what im saying. Oh one good thing was the breakfast, pretty nice. Location not great but atleast not far from metro. There are much better places at this price to stay.
