We stayed at the Hotel Le Versailles (not sure where Atel bit comes from, don't believe this is a chain anymore?) for one night and found it a great hotel for a visit to the palace. I had initially thought about Sofitel for location as we were on a tight time scale but was reluctant to pay much higher rate for just a bed for the night. Travelling with a three year old also played a major factor in this. Its a clean hotel, with private underground car park which is difficult to manoeuvre round but secure. We had a nice big room with an extra bed for our little one. Very near to the gates of the palace which was ideal. Eating in Versailles was a little more tricky, a bit of a walk as everything centred around "Les Halles" (the covered market area) but once there lots of choice althought I wouldn't the American Style restaurant for fine dining!
Breakfast at the hotel was great lots of choice and plenty still available even though we were last down. All in all, a good hotel for a visit to the Palace which is beautiful and heaving with visitors. Tip: If Golf Cart not appealing take the little "hop on hop off" train. Visit Petit Trianon and gardens they are beautiful but only open after 12noon !
