“It was what I expected for my first visit to Europe”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

For my first trip to Europe on March 21 - 28, 2004 (birthday) I picked the Paviliion St. Augustin. It was not memorable but my secretary sent us a bottle of wine with a note on hotel stationery that I saved in my scrapbook.

I do not recall how much we paid for the trip; however, I was very ill for the first couple of days and barely left the tiny room. I had expected a tiny room though since Europe is sort of known for tiny hotel rooms, just like here in New York.

Once I did feel okay enough to venture out with my then boyfriend, we found that the hotel was in a good location. We were able to navigate the metro system easily (we are New Yorkers). We visited the Eiffel Tower (10,40 euro), the Lourve ( 8,50 euro back then), Rodin Sculpture Garden and we also took a day trip to Versailles. We also took a boat cruise on Bateaux-Mouches which was fun.

I would rule this hotel out now, but for my first trip to Europe it wasgreat for getting to all the major attractions.

“Worst hotel I have ever stayed in and I am not joking”

If I could give this hotel no rating I would as it was nothing like what was advertised on the website. The rooms are very run down and actually the hotel is in bad condition. It has a 3-star rating and is no where near that in terms of state. I reserved via the website and was unable to cancel the reservation upon arriving at the hotel and checking in. I would have had to pay for two nights even if I had not stayed there so buyer beware. I looked at 4 rooms prior to taking one that was the best of the lot. It was on the street side and had a tiny little balcony. What I did not know is that the balcony doors did not close and so I would be awake all night from the noise and the garbage trucks at 5am. The air conditioning was not turned on and the hotel staff said that they only turn it on as of July 1st, now you do know that it can be hot and uncomfortable in Paris at the end of June! The room was not bad in size but everything was worn out (bed cover had cigarette burns, curtains had holes, wall paper was dirty and ripped in places, carpet was disgusting). The bathroom had a hair dryer from the 1970s, the ones with a hose like a vacuum that barely blows air. They did clean the rooms so I do not think it was actually dirty but you felt that way due to the condition of the place. The elevator was tiny, dirty, and only one, and so I always took the stairs instead. It took 2 days to fix the balcony door, and what they did was remove the door handle and put a tiny little bolt that barely did the job and the removal of the handle left a hole in the door. The staff tried to be nice and helpful but there is little that they can do about the overall condition of this hotel. Another thing, you have to give in your key when you leave, because if you do not,, it will not work when you return. No one told me and I went to my room and found my card did not work. The internet did not work in the rooms and only in the room downstairs although it was extremely slow. I would not recommend this hotel, it is in bad need of complete renovations.

Room Tip: There aren't any!

“As joyful as a toothache”

It sounded great when i was booking this hotel online, boasting FREE WIFI, convenience of travel etc etc... unfortunately the reality is far from what was advertised. The wifi did not work when I arrived, when i inquired about it i was told that a technician will be fixing the problem "tomorrow", which is ok by me, but during my four day visit, the WIFI did not work... ever, maybe the technician got lost.

My bathroom had a leak that left a constant puddle on the floor, I asked to change rooms but unfortunately all rooms were booked so the best they could do was get someone to fix the leak "tomorrow". That someone did not arrive, but thats cool by me, nothing to get mad about.

The air conditioner didn't work so the room felt like the Mohave Desert in the summer, I did try to open my windows but the traffic noise (even at night) sounded like a sand storm so i had to give in and suffer the heat. The mini fridge did not work, rendering the drinks to be warm so I resorted to having a cold shower (after long jumping straight into the bathtub to avoid the swamp puddle left from the leaking toilet).

The lights in the room were rather dim making anything other than sleeping quite uncomfortable. Adding to the discomfort was the bed which sounded like vultures fighting over dead meat everytime i moved (absolute no exaggeration).

The lobby of the hotel was also rather dark in lighting. Most of the walls were made from mirrored dark glass, two of which were smashed, (most probably caused by previous guests racing to leave the vicinity) just a note to anyone planning to stay here, please keep your children close by as the damaged glass-walls did look rather hazardous.

Other than the above, I had a fantastic four "DAYS" in Paris ("DAYS" being the main word as I was only in the hotel at night). And I definately will visit again but will choose a slightly better hotel, possibly one that didnt make me feel like I was living in a 1980's B-movie.

“I'll never come and stay at this hotel again.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2011

The best thing about this hotel is its location as its walking distance from the St.Lazare underground. The room was clean and the shower worked well. BUT..... the air-conditioning did not work and so the room was hot. After trying to cool the room by opening the window doors, I was forced to close them to sleep because the noise of traffic was so loud. (I had a street facing room on the fourth floor.) The bed was really creaky. I didn't even try the restaurant coz it didn't look that great. Oh, don't be fooled by this hotel's webite saying there's free WIFI coz there is only free WIFI in the lobby of the hotel. It stopped working after our second day of stay there. We tried to borrow an adaptor from the reception in the evening. The reception stff was so blazzare about it and rumaged lazily in the drawer next to him before replying sleepily, "No adaptor."

“Horrible place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2011

No air conditioning in the room. No wireless on floors 5 and 6. There appeared to be an electric current going through the mattress. The lighting was not adequate - I couldn't see my computer keyboard.
The room was boiling hot in the daytime, and without air conditioning it was necessary to leave the windows open for hours to get the temperature down.
The cleaners went into the room even though I had put a do not disturb sign on the door. The restaurant is enclosed by walls, so when someone started smoking a cigar I was forced to leave.
This building should be condemned.
