Despite being booked well in advance (a couple of months) with a twin bedded room requested specifically in the reservation comments (and also checked upon arrival, "deux lits?" "Oui madame") we were given a double bedded room. Heated discussion ensued during which the receptionist remained very negative and disinterested leading to his eventually aquiescing and giving us what he described as a '3 bed' room, consisting of a double and a folding bed. Along with a bathroom in which you can't stand in front of the sink and close the door, there is also a large window/balcony overlooking a very busy street which has not been soundproofed in the slightest. Even now after midnight it's very noisy in the room. The room itself is tiny and painted a depressing shade of dark grey and vivid red, with what appears to be a clingfilm ceiling. We also weren't provided with a bin and its possible to hear the rest of the hotel's plumbing resonate through the tiny radiator which is strategically placed to cook the legs of the person sleeping in the folding bed while leaving whoever else is in the room gloriously untroubled by any sort of warmth. Outside the room the paintwork all over the inside of the building is shoddy and flaking, the lift can barely fit one person and a suitcase, the fire doors won't close under thier own power and the hallways are fitted with UV 'anti-junkie' lights. On the plus side, it is very close to the gare du nord, and the layout of the bathroom is such that should you need to have your face in the sink while sitting on the toilet, for whatever reason, you'll be in luck. Sadly when asked below whether i would recommend this hotel to a friend, there was no option along the lines of 'from hell's heart i say, a million times nay'. No will have to suffice.
