At the end of Rue Saint Dominique looms the Eiffel Tower - when you arrive at the Hotel le Pavillon, you know you are most definitely in Paris. This is very much a typical Parisian hotel, small, slightly scruffy, quaint, irritating. FIve star, it isn't but set back from the road, situated in the lively 7ème, close to the Tour Maubourg metro and the river and in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, it offers good value for money.
Not if you have any problems climbing steps and stairs - le Pavillon is lamentably inaccessible - there's no lift, the staircase and corridors are narrow, my room was small, the en-suite shower even smaller. But if none of this presents you with any difficulties and you want to experience something beyond the monotony and the price of the standardised hotel chain, give le Pavlillon a try.
The welcome was warm and helpful; Breakfast is served in the hotel's small foyer but I recommend going out the the gate, turning right and at 58 rue Saint Dominque, discovering the delights of the only Paris branch of the boulangerie La Tarte Tropézienne. Coffee and a croissant for €1.70 was good value enough but if you aren't tempted to try just a little bit more, you're are stronger willed than I. The pains au chocolat in mini-baguettes are unforgettable!
