For the money paid and the classification of M-gallery I expect a lot more. Stars are obviously awarded for location and the pretty building. Staff are not what you expect from Mercure and did not want to help in any way. French are not friendly or service oriented anyway but a hotel of this style should have the few that are. I am an Accor Platinum member thanks to my work trips and am meant to be a VIP (not being elitist, but would hate to think how they treat others if I am meant to be special!)
Booked the weekend here as a nice romantic getaway for my wife who loves Paris. The location is good near the Arc, Champs and Eiffel and the building is very beautiful and french in style. Inside the foyer is done nicey, due to the upscale restaurant in the back (pricey so didn't bother). The bar is nice but service is very slow....just put another barperson on!
Spent a fortune on an upgrade to a junior suite, as a treat and to make the weekend nice. Had read a review that said these rooms look over the street and very parisian blah blah blah.....small room with a Nespresso (special mention in room description) that didn't even work, and staff wouldn't fix it. The view was off the aircon ducts out the back and the service area. Bed was ok, only 2-3 tv channels in English.
I can only assume that this place is only good for someone wanting a good location. Get the cheapest room you can. For breakfast, don't bother with the restaurant- Croissants and Coffee from the cafe straight out the front door and turn left are fantastic. Dinner, turn right and about a 10-15 min walk to Trocadero has heaps.
Room Tip: Cheapest/Classic Room would be best. Don't bother upgrading
