We booked this hotel as it said it had disabled access. The reality was 5 steps to the entrance. The accommodation was on 3 floors but the small lift only covered 2 floors, 1/2 way between each, so you were faced with either a walk down or a walk up the room. The foyer looked very tired and smelt damp. We had asked for a room at the back to avoid the road noise but did not realise we would be overlooking the carpark with boxes of rubbish and a view of the outbuilding with the clutter. It also smelt. The room was very cramped so we had to take turns to walk round the 4 ft 6" bed. The shower had mould around the base and the towels provided were very thin. We noticed that the toilet smelt damp but a day or so later discovered that the toilet had a towel behind it on the floor as the cistern was leaking continuously. The wardrobe was so small (about 3 foot) and narrow with 2 small shelves above that coathangers had to be put at an angle and also smelt damp because it backed onto the toilet. After the 2nd day when we noticed the water flooding the toilet, they offered to move us but it was too much hassle to move all our bags as we were on a 12 night tour, had a lot of baggage and were leaving the following day. The skirting board was filthy and lots of dust under the bed. The only seating in the room was 2 hard office chairs. Breakfast was very cheap sliced cheese, tinned fruit with bread and jams. Not worth the money. We had the evening meal on Saturday that was well frequented by local people but the main meal was disappointing. The restaurant is closed on Friday evenings and Sundays. The owners were very friendly and spoke good English and the setting over the river is pretty. They were aware of the leaking toilet and said that a man would be coming to fix it but surely they should not have rented out this room in the first place if they knew of the problem. They are apparently in the process of renovating some of the rooms at the hotel and said if we returned, they would ensure we had a better room. There is a Logis de France hotel in Chatealin itself called Le Xmas but was not suitable for disabled access otherwise we would have changed.
