We spend a very nice weekend in this hotel! It's clean and light!
Two night stay: I received a very warm welcome from the owner, a major fan of the Clermont-Ferrand rugby team (which he told me several times had just won the French championship :) and a nice, light and airy room on the first floor at the front with a small functional shower room (walls VERY thin!).
I slept OK and went down looking forward to breakfast but was disappointed by the exceedingly meagre portion of a single small bread roll, a small croissant, two little pots of jam, two portions of butter, a small glass of orange juice and a large mug of coffee. Second morning I received the exact same breakfast and on each occasion I went out into the city to find something extra to eat!
The owner was extremely helpful in suggesting possible routes for my onward journey, even researching the excellent viamichelin website and producing maps for me.
A handy hotel for a city break/overnight stay, reasonably close to the centre (ten minute walk), quiet and clean. But if you like a decent breakfast you won't get it here.
The little hotel is convenient to the train station & a good walk from Place de Jaude. I stayed with my wife and 2 daughters in a suite for 4 with toilette in room. We loved the simple yet very clean rooms, the hospitality of owner is what makes this a special place. We don't speak much French so communication was brief; good thing he knew some English.
It was our first time in France and this place. Hotel is situated at a great location at very central of the town. It is simply very good for everything. Friendly people always try their best. Room is not too big but clean. Overall , it is a good choice so far!
Although the St Joseph has seen better days we had a good night's sleep, quiet, and a good continental breakfast afterwards. The staff were friendly and helpful, particularly in suggesting a good restaurant for dinner (it was good). The room was clean but the description of "courtyard" was confusing - it was more a space between the various parts of the buidling. Good valuye for money in a city where all the reports suggest there are only mediocre hotels.
