“BEWARE of CHARGES at the end of stay!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2012 NEW

I was hesitant to book this hotel based on it's bad reviews, but decided to take a chance and book it since it was recently renovated. The service is pretty nice, the location is central, but what they added in on our bill really left a sour taste at the end of it all. I took nice photos of the room, and was gonna give it a really nice review, since every business deserves a chance.. Until I received the bill...

We had ordered in room service to the room TWICE. Once for dinner, once for breakfast. When we left the hotel, the bill came up to 197 euros ++. We didn't have any idea what it was for, since it was all in FRENCH. We asked the guy what they stood for, and he said, well, "scrambled eggs, water, etc". He was reluctant to elaborate, so we paid in cash and left.

Upon leaving, I scrutinized the bill in the car and realized we were charged for 2 quantities of "petit de jeneur" - (23 euros x 2), per day. We stayed 2 days, so that equals (23 euros x 2 x 2 = 92 euros).

Basically, our room service cost should have only amounted to 100 euros, but we overpaid by 92 euros, in cash. After googling what "petit de jeneur" meant, we found out it stood for "breakfast". WTH! We never even stepped into the restaurant ONCE in 2 days. We had room service, once for dinner and once for breakfast, and all of those charges were stated out on our bill as "supplement petit de jeneur". If we knew we were being charged for breakfast, we would never have ordered room service, right?? They didn't bother to clarify or take it off our bill.

Additionally, the first day when we arrived at the hotel, we arrived at 12 midnight. How could I have breakfast when I arrived at 12 midnight?

Despicable. Never set foot in this place again.

Dear Guest,

We thank you for the time you took to write a message on TripAdvisor. We felt sorry to learn that your experience did not live up to your expectations.

We would like to assure you that we constantly strive to achieve the highest level of service, because we do really care about our clients and are attentive to offer a guest-minded service.

Indeed the classic continental breakfast (hot beverage, juice, bread, pastries) is at 23 € per person and per day which has been served in your room. Any additional order (scrambled eggs, fruit salad…) is charged as a supplement which is clearly explained on the breakfast order form written in french as well as english in each of our room.

We feel sorry that it was not clear for you, as we looked at your invoice we confirm that the bill corresponds to the order of your stay, and that there is therefore no surcharge on our part.

Your remarks will surely help us in providing a pleasant and comfortable stay for our future clients by informing them what is included or not during their stay in case they do not read the informational document of the hotel.

We stay at your disposal should you need to and remain with all our best regards,

Isabelle Dujarrier

“Elegant and tasteful upscale modern”

This hotel is unimposing from the front, but when the doors slide open, you find yourself in a very clean, modern, elegant setting. Our room was small, but was very well appointed and elegantly decorated. Good use of mirrors on the walls helped to make it seem more spacious. We were in a quiet corner with a lovely view of the mountains and the city’s terra cotta rooftops. It was a peaceful room and we slept quite comfortably.
The hotel has two restaurants. We ate two meals in the bar, lunch in the outside patio and dinner inside. The menus had surprising items, such as a delicious Thai salad, and the service was outstanding. Whether we asked the staff for information on a restaurant, super market or manicurist, we were given just what we asked for, along with a map and clear directions as to how to arrive.
The walk to the city centre is very pleasant along cobble stone sidewalks lined with charming and imposing carved stone buildings.

“Renovated without thought”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

We stayed two nights in this completely renovated hotel. The staff was very nice, but whoever did the redesign cared more about style than function. For example, the storage space in the rooms is largely hidden by the sleek lines, and quite hard to open due to the lack of handles. Similarly, the shower doors are very sleek, but lack handles to close them from the inside.

I'm sure some people like the contemporary styling, but I found it mostly charm-less (IMHO).

The shopping center across the street is brutish and ugly. And don't even think about trying to drive in Bordeaux with a car, the traffic flow is permantely bollixed.

The location is close to the center, but not as close as most of the other hotels, and certainly not close if it is raining (which I'm told it does frequently here).

We stayed here as part of a packaged tour, so we don't know what we paid. But I'd be unhappy paying anything close to the rack rates displayed at the screen near the entryway.

Dear Sir,

First and foremost we would like to thank you for your time writing a message on Trip Advisor.

The Hotel Burdigala was entirely renovated this summer, not only the rooms and suite but also the bar and restaurant. The designer thought of a sober and elegant atmosphere in the whole hotel. Yours remarks are sensible and smart and we all agreed that some equipments need amelioration ; we actually thinking of some lay out specially in the duplex. The storage will be soon equipped with handles.

The Hotel Burdigala is situated a stone thrown from the city center (5mn by walk) and it is true that driving is a city that you do not know, is not that easy.

Finally, the south west of France is well known for its tempered climate and luckily it rains sometimes. We propose nice umbrellas when the weather is unpredictable.

We do really care about our clients and are attentive to offer a guest–minded service. Your remarks will surely help us in providing a pleasant and comfortable stay.

We stay at your disposal should you need to.

We remain with all our best regards,

Thierry Gaillac
