“Large dingy rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

After 7 days in Germany and Austria, we showed up in Strasbourg without reservations. Given the Christmas markets day of reservations were hard to come by. We were hoping to stay at under a $100 for the night after all the market shopping.

We settled on Victoria Garden after a good 45 minutes of searching online. The staff, with the exception of one young lady, was not especially friendly or helpful. The wifi was a euro for one hour or five euro for 24 hours...only it wasn't working while we were visiting. The room was large and marginally clean. I found hairs in the awful stiff scratchy sheets. The curtains were covered in a brown grease and were just barely hanging on the wall. There was a large dirty hand print on the wall...a nice touch. The bathroom was the worst part....please replace the disgusting shower curtain! 2 skimpy towels per room is hard for two adults. Hand towels would've been nice. No hair dryers or irons for the rooms.

It is not in the main drag of the town but if you don't mind a 10 to 15 minute walk it is doable.

Parking is not included but there is a garage a few blocks away.

The carpets in all the halls are absolutely disgusting. Stained doesn't even begin to describe the carpets.

“Lots of problems at Victoria”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

I stayed at Victoria Garden during European parliament's session in Strasbourg 3 nights starting 26th September. It was difficult to find anywhere else to stay at that time.
Victoria Garden is a big hotel with 2 entrances. Mine was the one closer to the railway station. Still, it's a good 10 minutes walk from the station.
My double room was spacious with a reasonably comfortable bed, and fridge. Those we're the pros.
Cons: First the toilet wouldn't flush, then it was fixed and wouldn't stop running for the rest of the stay. No lights in the bathroom (that was fixed). The window wouldn't close, lots of noise from the nearby railway and street. No hair-dryer even to be loaned from the reception. We were 5 each with his/her own room and we all had lots of problems. One of us had no electricity in the room during the whole stay!
Breakfast at 7,50 euros was very basic the French way: croissants, toast, marmalade, yogurt, coffee machine and juice. You had to queue since it was quite crowded.
There are no restaurants (well, one but it closed very early) nearby. There's a shopping mall about 7 minutes walking distance, though, and tram stations within about 10 minutes walking distance to go to old town. If you like walking and have comfortable shoes it's no problem but if you need to dress up and have high heels - take a taxi if you get one!
Next time in Strasbourg I'll stay somewhere else closer to the very pretty old town or next to the train station since train is the best way to get to the airport.

“bed bugs!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

Unfortunantely I had to stay in this hotel since I was coming to Strasbourg at the time of PA session when most of the hotels are booked. I couldn't believe my eyes that they call this a hotel! It was more of a hostel I would say and a very bad one! The service was bad, they simply can not help you with anything, rooms were so old and creepy, it was too hot in the room so I had to keep my windows open all night long, the bathroom was floaded every day...but the worst of all were the bed bugs. I would never go back to that place!!

“Ok Hotel but Cheapest Place we Could Find”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2010

Check in was really efficient which I was impressed with as the place was busy. These apartments are very big and have a small kitchenette inside which is useful if you want to chill some wine or have some bread and cheese like we did. The bathrooms are ok although a bit dated but the shower worked really well and there was plenty of hot water.

The location was ok, about a 10 minute walk from the train station and a 15-20 minute walk from the centre of town.

The biggest downside was that the bed was probably the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. They had one of those very cheap thin foam mattresses and my back was in a lot of pain although my boyfriend was ok so perhaps it was just my side of the bed. As a result however, I don’t think I could bring myself to stay here again which is a shame. Despite it being one of the cheapest places we could find when we booked if I had to stay in Strasbourg again, I think I would pay a bit more for a proper bed.
