“Appalling attitude from the Manager of the hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We have stayed at Chancellors Hotel a number of times, and even got married here this summer. Have had a good experience and service generally in the past. Have had problems however with the showers a few times. Went for New years eve and my now husband had a shower. There are signs warning about hot water, so he dutifully set the water and was very careful to wait and make sure the water was right before getting in. After 10 minutes of being in the shower, it suddenly went scalding hot and burnt him. Though the reception staff were very good and understanding, the manager was a completely rude man (who I would say more, but don't want to swear!) and basically said there were signs warning and therefore our fault. He then tried to explain WHY it is the showers can scald you! Showers should not scald you!! We asked him what would have happened if there was a child or older person with us and he merely said ' well there isn't is there?'. His complete lack of understanding and willing to solve a problem was astounding. This was even after he knew we had spent a great deal of money there just a few months earlier.

What we are very concerned about is that there is still a problem, the showers continue to burn people and they will do nothing about it. I have seen other reviews and spoken to other people and seen it happen to them. Until this is resovled we shall not be going back. I will be writing to the council to try and get someone to solve this problem and urge anyone with children, or have older people with them NOT to stay here.

“Smallest room ever!”

Stayed or two nights and came out back and blue. Bend over to pick up a sock you hit your bum, go to the loo and squeeze thru the smallest door I have ever seen and then wonder why there is so much room in the public areas outside the room which are not used and so little in the bedrooms where you need it. How on earth housekeeping copes I will never know. I will never complain about my small cottage again.

“Great Value Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

I stayed for two nights in December whilst attending a course/exams at the Armitage Centre across the road. Easy to find and just next to Fallowfield - plenty of restaurants/coffee shops/Sainburys. I had a single room which was small but had everything you needed and very clean. Lots of hot water and good shower over the bath. Some noise from the students playing sport on the astroturf next door but nothing obtrusive. Free internet was speedy.

I ate in the hotel both evenings, limited menu but the special early bird 2 courses for £10 menu was good value. Breakfast had a good choice and room service was no extra charge. Good place to stay!

“Good location but small rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

We stayed at Chancellors hotel for a event at University of Manchester during weekday. Value for Money - Clean rooms and convenient location. But rooms are small in size and far away from reception with long winding corridors. Rooms were warm and had to shut down the heating. Good Full English Breakfast. Staff courteous and willing to help.

Room Tip: Please ask for bigger room if you need a cot for the child.

“Good value for the money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

I stayed at Chancellors for 1 night during November when I traveled to Manchester for business. The hotel was a little hard to find, due to the fact that the GPS takes you to a barrier from where you can actually see the hotel but in order to get to it you have to go around with your car. We called the hotel for directions and the front desk agent was very clear and patient. The hotel is very basic in service. I could tell right away that it was a "university" hotel and the front desk confirmed that it was actually owned by the University of Manchester. It is very good for conferences as it has numerous spaces and while I was there there were at least two events taking place.

The hotel looks modern and colorful but at the same time cosy. The room is very basic and quite small for a double room, but OK for one night. The hotel is in a park area and near some sport courts so it looked very nice.

The breakfast was pretty basic again with not very many things to choose from.

I tried to use the business centre but the computer there was so slow that I gave up.

It was within walking distance from my business meeting so for that reason and for the good value, I would stay there again.
