lovely views, nice location, fantastic service, not a lot to do in the hotel or in the area over Christmas
We stayed at Cotswold House this weekend for two nights. We were celebrating a special anniversary and decided to stay in the UK at the last minute. We booked a lastminute deal through off-peak luxury and stayed DBB.
- The hotel is lovely. The decoration is stylish and warm and the pictures on the website are generally a true reflection of what you see on the ground.
- We had a brilliantly warm reception on arrival and everytime we entered the hotel. There was a large party there when we stayed, so this was pretty surprising.
- Every request we made was met with a quick and friendly response.
- We ate in the Hicks restaurant both nights and found the food great. The service was friendly and generally good (although they did get a little pressed on Saturday when they were full).
- The Spa was small but brilliant. We had a great time relaxing there on Sunday morning with the papers, and I had two treatments which were both excellent.
- We stayed in one of the smallest rooms in the hotel (a double), which was cozy, but not too small by a long way. The bed was really comfortable and the room quiet and really nicely decorated.
We talked about whether there were any cons about the experience. The only things we'd come up with are really minor. We would stay there again anytime, and we'd love to stay in a suite. The very minor negatives about our weekend were:
- the bathroom had a really low ceiling which meant we couldn't stand under the shower properly (understandable in an old building, but a little irritating);
- the finishing in the bathroom needed a little bit of touching up here and there;
- there was only ever one teacup for teatray, even when refreshed on the second day... Whenever we asked for another, it was delivered quickly, but it did seem weird that they thought only one of us would want a cup of tea at a time!
All in all, this is one of the nicest hotel experiences I've had. I've travelled a fair bit and this was lovely. The staff should be proud. My only reservation is on price, as I'm not sure I'd pay this much for a weekend, if it hadn't been for a special occasion.
Okay when you read the start of this review you may wonder why I have given it 5* but read on and all will become clear.
I was looking for a romantic break for my wife and I as we have not had time away on our own since my youngest was born (6 years ago). After trawling the net I found Cotswold hotel had a great deal on a junior suite with it's own personal hot tub! I phoned the hotel and booked it however when I called a week before leaving I found out the hotel had made an error and put me in a junior suite without the hot tub. With arguments or issues the hotel upgraded me to the full Suite with private hot tub. I was then called 24 hours before going with the disappointing news that the hot tubs were broken and unlikely to be fixed at the time of our stay. They then switched the suite for the one with a stone bath and private terrace plus an additional £30 spa voucher. All of this was handled very professionally.
Now the start of our break, we arrived 2 hours early and were informed the room was being finished so took us to the lounge area and brought through complimentary tea and coffee while we waited. The room was amazing, they had the open coal fire lit and champagne and strawberry's waiting for us on the table. The bathroom was about the size of my living room with mood lighting, walk in shower and a bath that at 6ft my feet didn't touch the ends along with a TV! The mini bar was filled with wine, beer, coke, OJ, water and chocolate which was all complimentary. The bedroom was beautiful with doors out to our private terrace (very handy being a smoker). We were offered a turn down service as well as a choice of bedding and pillows. Suffice to say my wife was more than a bit chuffed with the luxury!
We chose to dine in the Hick's restaurant both evenings and one lunch, the menu is small but amazing. My wife doesn't normally allow me to have steak when we eat out due to how fussy I am about the meat and how it is cooked. She needn't have worried here as I think I can only list 3 places that have compared to how well my steak was cooked.
On the second day we chose to use the spa facilities and I am embarrassed to say I turned into a complete woman with a back, face, feet and head massage! My wife chose the back wrap and the facial, both of us felt so relaxed and refreshed at the end it truly showed why it has such a high rating in the Spa books. Later that day we returned to the spa to relax in the hydro pool and steam room which I have to admit relaxed me so much I slept for that afternoon!
In summary I can't fault this hotel especially when you compare the price to others around! The staff were all friendly and helpful even getting in special requests for breakfast (I have to have baked beans with a full english) the setting was beautiful and was a true romantic break that left us wishing we could stay.
We stayed here for a Couple of nights a while back. We booked Hidcote house, one of the garden suites! This place is so good its not true! Luxurious room with everything you would want and more, stunning furniture and decor! The Hot tub in the Garden was such a nice touch!
Breakfast was included in the price and we had it in our suite, it was delicous!.
We really enjoyed it.
One of the best hotels we have stayed in!
I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to hotels (having lived in Dubai, the heart of the hotel industry) but this place was absolutely gorgeous. The hotel itself is quite small and has a lovely homely feel to it. We had one of the cottage rooms in the gardens, which have a little downstairs area for walking boots etc and a staircase up to a bedroom and bathroom. Both rooms were very generously sized, lit and heated and kept very clean throughout our stay. We had breakfast in bed one day which was great, although the staff seemed a little clueless as to how to serve it (one tray between the two of us was a little tricky).
All in all a very good stay and definitely recommended.
