We trusted this hotel to look after us for a big family occasion that involved us booking some 20 rooms between us, some for one night some for two. The drive up to the hotel is impressive through the golf course. The rooms... a little tired and in need of a face lift but clean. Undeterred we collected our swim gear and headed for the pool... changing rooms clean but big wide open space, showers tired... pool area clean... but huge disappointment, Jaccuzi not working! Due to time of year there were also restricted hours of use with regard to the pool.
Breakfast was poor, the scrambled eggs solid... we were not looked after at the table, and had to go in search of staff for a coffee refill..., I was in the restaurant at 8.15am for a leisurely breakfast and enjoyed the chance to talk to other party members as they arrived so by the time I wanted a croissant at 9.20 there were none left, so I requested some but I was told breakfast was finished although 9.30 was the advertised cut off time.
The bar area was frankly very poor and dated.
The real whammy came the next day when the hotel staff had completely mixed up the room booking that we had made as a gift to our future daughter-in-law... an agreed (and invoiced for) early 9.00am check in (confirmed by email to our son) to the Bridal Suite, so that she could enjoy the whole excitement of getting ready for her big day with the bridal party. She came to my room and was very upset so I immediately went to reception. This wedding had been planned so carefully, down to the last detail, this was to be my future daughter-in-law's and son's big day. I was very angry and felt very let down, the receptionist did not have the back up of any managerial staff and had to handle the situation by herself, which left her upset. The room was not available as they had booked in guests the night before, who didn't have to vacate until 11.00 am and then the room needed to be cleaned...etc. She was offered another room that was freezing cold and the bath panel was hanging off threatening to snag very expensive outfits... a portable heater and a man with a drill turned up... by this time we decided to abandon any idea of using this room and so we all improvised and shared our rooms so that the 'bridal entourage' had make-up done in one room, hair in another and dressed in a further room... . Not ideal by any stretch of the imagination! We finally got the keys for the Bridal Suite at 11.40am and as the party had to leave the hotel just after 12.00pm it was of no value whatsoever. When the groom and the bride returned after the wedding none of their luggage was in the room as there had been no time to organise this and in fact the next morning the bride had to text me to collect items of her clothing from the three family rooms where the prep had been done in order to be able to get dressed!
So I finally got to see a manager just before checking out as I did not want to pay for the suite... the situation and our 'relationship' with this hotel could have still been 'saved' at this point, but sadly misrepresentations had been made in the telling of the story to her and she refused to waive the fee (she wanted to speak to some one else who was not present or contactable etc etc). My son, had by this time, arrived in reception as he was checking out with us and showed the General Manager the email he had received back in November confirming arrangement and so it was finally agreed that we would not pay for the room, but no apology was ever made.
The most helpful and pleasant member of staff was the cleaner.
I wouldn't ever choose to return to this hotel and would never recommend it to anyone.
