I booked one night at this B&B after reading some reviews well in advance of my stay and managed to get what I thought was a good deal. Was told that there was a TV and coffee and tea making facilities in each room with shared bathroom. Asked for a room near the bathroom.
Sat nav did not recognise the roads, because they have been recently updated and I did not have an A to Z in my car. Consequently called the hotel for directions. Staff claimed they did not know where I was; asked a local, only to find out I had been down the street. How could people working at a family run B&B not have a good knowledge about the streets and pubs near them?
Booked in without problems. Shown to my room, which was an attic conversion room, up 2 flights of stairs, one of which was extremely steep and dangerous (no handrail and would not have been convenient for any elderly person). Room itself was tiny, had a slanting ceiling and therefore not suitable for anyone tall, had one window, the seams of which were covered in masking tape to block out the draft, a small tv and a sink. I could tell from the draft that the quilt on the bed woud not be adequate so asked for extra bedding which was supplied. The sink was blocked. The staff member mentioned that my request to be put near the bathroom could not be met as the rooms were booked but for an extra £15 she could move me into another room that was near the bathroom (on the floor below). I find it hard to believe that booking in advance would be met with such an explanation - surely they should have put a room aside for me in advance that did meet my requests?
I did not tell them about the sink as by this point I realised that the staff were inept. The bathroom door had masking tape across it and looked like a police crime scene. I was told that despite this it could be used. There was a toilet next to the bathroom and a toilet in the bathroom. Neither were homely and looked more like the toilet and bathroom you would get in a student halls.
In the morning there was no tea or coffee at the breakfast table. The staff came and asked you if you wanted tea or coffee which meant you could not refill as you wanted or grab a quick cup of tea. The breakfast was not too impressive and again when asking for directions to a local place I was met with dodgy directions, of which I was unable to follow.
Overall would not recommend at all. A "family run B&B" with no homely feeling, poor knowledge of the local area and inadequate and poor facilities.
