“An Amazing Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

My family and I spent 3 nights here in the week before Xmas 2011. Wicklow town itself is a place with great character and a pile of perfect little shops. The lighthouse was just magical. We have always tried to give our kids experiences to remember rather than overdoing material gifts. They will certainly remember this trip. This beautiful windblown headland was just superb to wake up to with the wind rattling the panes of the lighthouse and that strange eerie Irish light coming through the clouds in shafts over the water. The area is a dream to take photos of and a wonderland to stroll through. We all loved staying in the lighthouse, it was so unique and so full of history. It was also a very pleasant place to stay with all the rooms decorated tastefully and Miriam the caretaker had added Xmas decorations which was a wonderful touch. We definitely will come here again, we plan to come in the Spring time as I can imagine the area would be breathtaking with plant and animal life.

“Unforgettable experience”

We stayed for 3 nights at Wicklow Head Lighthouse. The entire lighthouse is yours, it's truly amazing. The kitchen is 109 steps from the bottom, so you have to be willing to climb lots of stairs. There are two bedrooms, and one bathroom, basically in the middle of the lighthouse. In the livingroom there are padded cubbies to sit in by all the windows, giving you a very cozy place to sit and watch the ocean. It's remote, so at night it's very dark, which lets you see the star filled sky. We were lucky to be there during a storm, listening to the wind knock the windows about. A truly unforgettable experience. Kitchen is well appointed. We were there over Thanksgiving weekend, so we made ourselves a Thanksgiving dinner (Guinness beef stew instead of turkey) and spent the night at the top of our lighthouse. There are wonderful hiking trails all around, we were fortunate one day to happen upon a cove full of seals. We sat and watched them for an hour. Wicklow town has some restaurants and pubs, cute little stores and a couple of grocery stores so you can find everything you need. Close by is the town of Avoca, which has the Avoca Handweavers, the oldest working wool mill in Ireland. We bought some hand woven scarves and a coat, a fantastic souvenir of a beautiful trip.
