“The great escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Lovely hostel nestled in a stunning valley - there is a canteen where food can be ordered (at very reasonable prices) and a kitchen where you can create your own inner Michelin starred dishes (however - bring the ingredients... the nearest shop is a very very very long walk away). There are lots of great walks in the immediate area as well as other activities that the very helpful and approachable staff can direct you to. Overall a great get away from it all:)

Room Tip: The family rooms are spacious and warm - for a romantic room with an unbeatable view ask for the ...

“good value hostel with access to splendid walks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Knockree is a "5-star" hostel. We (a familiy with two boys 10 and 13) stayed there on 29 December for one night in an en-suite family room that could have slept 5. The bathroom was basic but clean and HUGE. We stayed in a house slightly separate from the main (modern) hostel. Facilities are brilliant (well equipped kitchen, sufficient fridge space, communal "living room" with open fire and a DVD and book library) and clean. Staff are friendly and there is ample parking space available should you decide to arrive before check in time (3pm) and go for a long walk. The Hostel is on the "Wicklow way" and offers fantastic walks either to the north (to Prince Williams seat) or the south (Djouce and further). The scenery is amazing and if you love walking you are at the right place. The walk from the Hostel to the top of Djouce and back is roughly 22 km, took well under 5 hours and was no problem for our youngsters.

Room Tip: only one family en-suite or double en-suite so book early.

“lovely modern hostel, pity about the noise all night”

We are two families with six children age 5 to 11 and stayed in Knockree for the night. It was clean, modern and warm but very noisy until 3 or 4am because of a private party. We weren't informed when booking of the risk of a party continuing until 3 or 4am and told the next day that loud noise was fine as long as it wasn't in one of the bedrooms. staff asked us "had we been hosteling recently?", this is what to expect . We all left the next day exhausted.

“New Year's party in Knockree”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

I spent the 30th and 31st of December in Knockree Hostel with husband and three small kids and 10 other familes all with small children. We booked out the hostel for the second night.

We had an amazing time. The place was so clean and warm and the staff couldn't do enough for us.

We all went for big walks over the 2 days and took turns in the kitchen to cook.

A great way to ring in the new year!

“The most amazing place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2009

The trip to Knockree Hostel may take a while to get to, especially if you are on foot, but you are highly rewarded with the beauty, location and hospitality of this facility.

We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite and we both agreed that it was the most amazing and best room we have ever stayed in. Incredible views of the Wicklow Mountains

The staff was ready to help when we had questions and were very accommodating. We would definitely stay here again.
