Terrible experience in every way. We had stayed here before and that time had a room with a great view of the water, room 202, (the receptionist told us then that there were only two rooms with excellent water views). This time I phoned up to make a reservation for a Saturday night, weeks in advance, and requested one of these rooms. The receptionist said it would be no problem. On checking in some weeks later I reminded the receptionist that we had requested one of these rooms and she acknowledged that we had, but went on to tell us that a couple had stayed in the room intended for us the night before and had asked that morning if they could stay an extra night. Despite the fact that we had reserved this room weeks in advance this couple were given our room. The receptionist explained to us that she couldn't ask them to move to another room! Er, we had a reservation, they did not --- these people should have been told that the room we reserved and that they could stay an extra night but in another room. Instead what happens? We are given a room with a view of the car park!!! You could see a little bit of the water but it was a huge disappointment. We were shafted. What is the point in making a reservation in this hotel if they are not going to follow through on their part of the contract?
On returning to the hotel at around 2:30am we found lots of people in the lobby who were not residents. The desk was unattended --- meaning that there was nobody there to give us our key. In the end we phoned the reception and let the phone beside us ring and ring and ring, but nobody came to the desk. In the end I had to go searching for somebody who at first told me to wander around the hotel until I found the night porter! I insisted that he come and give me the key, which he evetually did. However, security here is pretty much non-existant. As I said, the recpetion desk was unattended but the recepetion are was full of non-residents. Anybody could have wandered in off the street and helped themselves to any number of room keys. In fact, I had begun to think, after 15 minutes of searching for somebody, that I would just have to go behind the desk and retrieve my key myself.
On going upstairs we found that all the smokers and people waiting for taxis were gathered under our room window (room 215). At almost 3am these people, who were not residents, were allowed to sing, shout and be generally rowdy right under residents windows! We phoned the reception and let the phone ring out many times before it was finally answered. The person who answered tried to address the issue. What kind of manager does this place have? Is it their policy to take lots of mony from guests and then allow party goers to continue their party under bedroom windows? What a dive. What kind of hotel does not have a 24 hour reception? The night porter infformed me that if I needed to contact him during the night I should call another number, 528, I think he said, because the reception phone is not usually answered. However, the reception number is the only one provided in the guest directory --- so best not have a problem during the night because you probably won't be able to reach anybody.
The hotel was generally in disrepair. The counter top in the bathroom of room 215 was worn away in some manner that creates only uncomfortable speculation. The duvet cover was had stains all over it and the toilet brush was filthy. The windows beside the tables in the breakfast room were leaking. This resulted in the set tables being splattered in dirty rain water. My shoes also stuck to the floor. The coffee was awful.
They also store your private data on their computer even months after you have paid and left the hotel. I know this because when I phoned up to book they still had all my details (name, address and possibly credit card details) in their system.
How much did we have to pay for not getting the room we had requested, for having to search for a receptionist for 15 minutes to get our room key, for having a party under our window at 3am, for not being able to reach any responsible person in less than 15 minutes and for having our room key left at an unattended desk? €120.
