We stayed here for a couple of nights and found the place to be very clean amd comfortable. The rooms had a warm homely feel to them. The highlight of this B&B are the people who run it who are extremely helpful and friendly and make you feel right at home. The breakfast was good and substantial. Everything we needed from a B&B stay.

Pro:
Very nice and friendly owner. Tasty and filling breakfast. Very quiet - great if you'd like to actually sleep at night. Clean (but far from spotless). The owner let us borrow umbrellas and arranged a taxi for us. Tasteful decorations.

Contra:
We've waited for 20 minutes in the rain before the owner came at check-in. Faint smell of moisture (mildew) in the room). No wifi (I know it wasn't advertised, but in todays era it's a must). Too small a room for 3 people. High price.

This bed and breakfast is pretty decent considering it's in Dublin. The price is fair enough as well because it is similar to many other bed and breakfasts in the rest of the country. The breakfast was adequate and the lady who runs the place is nice and informative.

I visited Dublin this weekend from Cork. I needed to be close to St James Hospital. I booked into Portland House and had an overall very pleasant experience. Being very tired on arrival I wanted to sleep. The room was warm and comfortable. We had a great sleep. Refreshed the next morning we ate an excellent breakfast and got to know our hosts John and Maried. They are great. The B & B was less than 5 minutes walk to the hospital and also only 10 minutes from the city centre using the LUAS (tram). The location is great. I highly recommend Portland House.
